    The thing about the "Nail" warhead is that it has an explosive device to propel it out of the warhead and an explosive device to "free and scatter" the fleshettes.

    This weapon is specifically for use against personnel. I see no reason it shouldn't be used on a battlefield, but if I'm not mistaken, these weapons have been used in population areas by the Israelis and the U S. This greatly increases the violence to civilians.

    A weapon is by itself passive. The how, when, and where it is used should be the real concern. I mentioned the explosive devices because if it doesn't function as planned then the danger is for children or unknowledgable people who pick it up.

    The writer is correct, these munitions need to be hit at the detonator portion to be energized, not like their cousins that have spring loaded firing pins that are detonated by motion. This is a real hazard to children. Israel scattered 3,000,000 of them in Lebanon before they left.
