President Bush broke his promise to the country by refusing to fire aide Karl Rove for leaking a CIA agent's identity, said Scott McClellan, the president's chief spokesman for almost three years. "I think the president should have stood by his word and that meant Karl should have left," McClellan said Sunday in a broadcast interview

I'm going to have to buy the book and read it for myself.
Rove should be in prison and be tried for treason. Bush and those that protected him are accessories at the least and co-conspirators at the worst.
This is a sad deal. Nixon /Watergate, Reagan/ Iran Contra,
Bush/Iraq war, Valerie Plame, Torture, Suspension of rights for suspected terrorists...
How much more can we take? We need to find a happy medium between conservatism and liberalism. I know lets call it reality!!

Bush is a criminal and needs to be tried as one along with Cheney and the rest of his horde(including Rove)!

  ani - You are absolutely correct. Bush, Cheney, Rove, Libby all DESERVE to be in jail; but none of them will see a minute behind bars. Not because the Dems are just as guilty (utter nonsense), but because of the realities of the political world.
  We are in a war, not of our own choosing, but where American troops are dying needlessly. The country is preoccupied w/ the election, the down spiralling economy, the loss of thousands of homes, ever increasing gas prices, etc. There is no stomach for a bruising impeachment battle.
  Moreover, even if any or all are ever convicted of crimes, the next president, Dem or Rep, would probably pardon them anyway.
  The Republicans refused to acknowledge the lack of support for Clinton by the public and pushed ahead anyway. The impeachment got nowhere. All the Republicans succeeded in doing was paralyze the entire government for all those months. Sadly so much harm was done just to satisfy the bloodlust of the Reps.
  As for going to war, yes,

    Bush did go to war on his own. He controlled the entire intelligence network, including the DNI, CIA, FBI, State Department, and the DOD (the largest component). Cheney and his staffers hounded the CIA to tailor the reports. Wolfowitz and Feith fabricated the myth of meetings of Iraq and al Qaida officials in Prague. On and on. Not a single piece of evidence, report, or interpretation of a field report has stood the test of time as being true and valid
    Even Bush has finally admitted that there are no WMD's. Yet at the time, he presented it as "slam-dunk" truth.
    He basically fooled and browbeat all officials and politicians into accepting his version of the truth.
    Congress never approved Bush to go to war. All congress ever did was to authorize use of funds by Bush if he needed it to go to war. Bush made the actual decision to use those funds.
    So, ani, you win. Bush, et al, will never go to jail.
    But look around you. We have a 10 trillion dollar national debt.

      The mideast is in a turmoil. Iran has no major regional enemy to deal w/ any more and can now forge ahead w/ nuclear plans. There are 4 million Iraqi refugees and 600,000 dead. We have 4200 troops dead. Oil production from Iraq has ceased and gasoline prices are ever increasing. New Orleans is still recoiling from Katrina and much of the city is still totally destroyed.
      Lastly, Osama bin Laden is still alive; the Taliban and al Qaida still are threats; our 3000 victims of 9/11 are still waiting for justice.
      Are you really happy and absolutely satisfied about Bush's work and the condition he has put our country in? Do you still really consider Bush to be a great or even just a good president. I don't care if you think he is a good man. Do you think he is a good president?

  One more reason Bush isn't in Jail is that the senate still is nearly half Roadblock Republicans and the Injustice Department now functions mostly as a political enforcement arm to try to build an eternal Republican monarchy.
  But all that's about to change. Bush may not get impeached, but when we have a real Justice Department again, there is a good chance that he and quite a number of his staff will spend time in jail.
  If we do not prosecute them, then we set the precedent that contempt of congress, trashing of Constitutional separation of powers, suspension of habeas corpus, the unitary executive, torture and deliberate propaganda are all just fine for any administration that follows him.

  What is truly sad is that you really seem to believe what you say. What is sad about that is you cannot see beyond the party you believe in.
  One day you will go before God. What will you tell him about all the evil you backed from this administration?
  What will you tell him about how you could not discern the good from the bad? Because they claimed to be a Republican and a man of God.
  What will you say when you see all the dead and misery that are on his hands. Will you be able to justify your beliefs, or will you silently weep and know total despair. For you will know that you followed an evil one, who sucked the life out of you.
  There is no joy, no pleasure in my saying this. There is actually sadness. Reflect privately on what has occurred, see if you think all is right.
  Don't let the hatred destroy you.

"Bush should have fired Rove"
Why? Just because he said he would?
He also said he was going to end partisan bickering in Washington.
He said he was going to restore the honor of the White House.
He said he could cut taxes for the super rich and not go into debt doing it.
He said he was never going to launch into nation building wars.
So why should he have fired Rove just because he said he would fire the people responsible for outing CIA NOC Valeria Plame? Far from firing anybody, he even pardoned Scooter Libby.
