This is one of the scariest scenarios I have read. Take heed of it. You must read it to fully understand the dire situation we are in.

I believe that we are in a very precarious situation. People don't realize how fragile our "petroleum" way of life is. What I fear now, the tipping point sort to speak, will be some unexpected event, something like storms in the Gulf of Mexico that shut down refineries, action with Iran, the closure of the Persian Gulf, unrest in West Africa. Boom we wake up to $250 a barrel oil and $8 a gallon gas. The market crashes and trading is halted. People want money from banks and the government closes them to prevent a run. Store shelves empty. Main Street Columbus starts to look like Miami after Bob.

Mr Buckler forgets to mention that the he huge "funding liabilities" on which he focuses are spread over a worker's productive life span of 40-50 years.

          This is a MAJOR error.

While the Social Security and Medicare INSURANCE programs certainly do need prompt attention in order to remain solvent, it is incorrect to call them immediate disasters as Mr. Buckler is doing in the editorial.
