This is a topic that we hear about only when it is usually to late. Society makes many laws in regards to children being abused or exploited but the eldrly are at just about the same risk.

My grandfather was abused by a jerk at the convalescent hospital he was at.

This was back in '73. The clown didn't do it again.

Kind of hard to get around on a couple of broken legs and grab someone with broken fingers. LMAO.

Guess he should have been more careful, terrible the way accidents happen to bad people.

Family need to take care of their own. When something like that happens and is reported and nothing happens. Well stuff happens huh?

My mother was considered under Elder abuse, regarding her health and debt with charge cards (do to a family member). It is sad to see a member of your own family take advantage of your mother, knowing something was wrong with her, and we did not know about it, till it was too late. My Mom was suffering from Alzheimer's and know one knew it.

The elderly just don't get the respect that they deserve in our society.

This is second hand report as I live in another state from where this is happening.

I have an aunt who's only son is abusing her not physically but he has taken charge of her finances and refuses to allow her to even have her identification or check book. I'm told that he doesn't even shop for her food regularly and at times she has nothing to eat. Sometimes he doesn't pay the utility bills and they have been turned off more than once. She had over $100K in saving and it has disappeared. Other relatives have contacted an agency which is supposed to deal with this type elder abuse but they cannot do anything because my aunt will not sign a complaint.

This is such a mess and nothing can be done.

I worked at a convalescent hospital when I was 18 and it was so sad to see that not only did their families not come to see them but the treatment was always rough. Some were treated worse than others because they "difficult" patients, but there were very few workers with a soft touch. I always got in trouble for taking too long to get my 9 patients up and ready in the morning. We had about an hour and half to get them all up and ready for breakfast. It's sad really and heartbreaking too.
