I doubt that a black person will ever become the Republican presidential candidate, at least not in the near future, so you probably won't be tested.
I don't know whether you are racist; I'll take your word that you are not. However, I do know from your comments that you are blind to all the faults of the current administration.

As I contribute to the Southern Poverty Law Center, I receive their 'Intelligence Report' periodically. I was stunned to see the number of hate groups in my state, which is liberal. The increase of these groups overall is huge, and isn't limited to clowns who run around in the woods playing 'macho' games. One 'christian' pastor of a mega church (Shepherds Chapel in Arkansas) preaches a theology that identifies an 'evil race' he calls the "Kenites".....meaning Jews. And the mainstream isn't without these freaks. My gawd, pat buchanan, a white nationalist, is given a place on MSM! (MSNBC). buchanan backed james edwards radical right radio show in Memphis! All this craziness is going to come to a head. Everything has its tipping point.

The Hate Groups Map is especially interesting. Many people think hate groups are more prevalent in homogenous rural areas, but if you check out the map, you can see that there is a lot of activity in and around heavily populated cities.

The West Coast is what surprised me, until I realized that we have a large gay population. Most hate crimes in CA occur in San Francisco. SF also has a large Asian community, which is a target. Seattle as well. One creep was arrested in Seattle for spewing hate language at a middle eastern man, & got 9 months in jail for his big mouth. WA is not tolerant of hate crime, so I'm surprised the slugs try it here.

Below is one of the recent anti-Semitic slurs that I have received, when I referred to the "imperial presidency" of GWB. Because, I dared to refer to him as the "Fhuher," which means "leader" in German, this extremist bigot followed my comment with this disgust remark below. (BTW... thanks to all of you who denounced that comment and expressed your support to me.)

I often disagree with the right wing government of Israel too; nevertheless, hyperbola disagrees with right of Israel to exist and continually demonstrates hatred for any Jew that dares to show pride for their nation. There is a major difference.
But the subject at hand is not about Israel, is it?

When the leaders of this country care more about themselves than the people they represent it breeds all kinds of stupidity and hate. I personally dislike Obama for several reasons, principal being that he appears to have learnt how to be a politician (double-speak, "flip-flopping", following the polls to HIS own gain, etc), NOT because of the colour of his skin....

I disagree with your view on Obama, for all his faults, and they are just as equal to McC's, he has a different approach to many of the problems that have been snowballing out of control for the last 25-30 years; is he the answer, probably not, but he is a step in the right direction, something has to change.
Also, as a Canadian I firmly believe that you and I and any other NATO country that is in Afgan have every right to voice our opinions in what USA is doing, we are there in support of our friend and ally and if our countrymen can shed their blood in response to 9/11's attack on USA then we can also voice our opinions.

I'll never understand the warped mentality required to hate people for no reason other than race, religion, gender, ethnicity, etc.... I guess there are flaws in our DNA which preserve this type of thinking. I don't know but it may be that hundreds of thousands of years ago it was a good self defense mechanism when resources were scarce and populations small and scattered. Today there is no place for it. It's like an appendix - a vestigial organ of no value or need.

Slate, we can certainly agree on one thing. FDR's incarceration of law abiding Americans of Japanese descent was wrong. It is a blotch on his otherwise stellar presidency.
I did note an interesting thing in the site that you gave us a link to, above. All of the democratic senators and governors who they listed as racist were from states that are not solidly republican. What is your take on that?

Bigots can be found everywhere in all political parties and at both extremes of political philosophy. Racism is used as a weapon to control people. That's all it is. I knew I'd be called names and accused of things for coming here and shining the light on the hypocrites that support the Democrat party. Only when people have the courage to stand up to the false accusations that you know will be levied against you to shed that light into the conversation will racism be done with. Those who promote hatred have right now a pefect enviroment to do so, your country has suffered lately from the morgage problems as well as a loss of jobs because of out sourcing and now the crippling effects of high energy prices. McCain's chances of winning are 10 to the power of 13 or so. But with politics anything can happen.
When Obama wins, he will be my president, he will not be my 'black' president, he will just be another president, the office has no COLOR,,,I wish him good health and I wish him safety, I mean that.

I read the local paper, the WSJ, a ton of magazines, internet fox and Cnn, and a lot of stuff on propeller.

Sorry slate, I can see absolutely no symmetry in the two situations, try as I might. I've been lambasting and ridiculing the president since I joined Propeller, as have many others. To my way of thinking he's earned it (though perhaps a recent comparison of his "poise, charisma, and intellect (resembling) that of a recently-tranquilized ape" went a little too far.
But by next January he'll be history and to continue the broadsides (in the manner that Clintonophobes insist on doing) would be redundant, wasteful, and not a little ridiculous. The business in hand will be that of the new president, and all the problems and difficulties he will face.
But yours was a timeless slur, of an entirely different nature, however unintentionally levelled, and potentially indicating a mindset without limits, and which has no place in civilized discourse. There may be a symmetry in the two but, if so, it for sure passed me by.

I'm proud that he had what it takes to make it to this level,,,, I'd be of anyone,,, even a silver spooner like W.
But it doesn't outrage me that he has dark skin. that's ludicrous... Heck we in south Texas outgrew all that stuff long ago once we started marrying outside our own race,,,,, we are more diverse than many think down here. Some of us have many bloods coursing through our veins,,,, such as yours truly,,,
All we ask, is to be able to say Obama's idea as we understand them aren't what we want,,,,, we want to be able to state that and or vote against him without being accused of being racists because of his skin color. That my friends is reverse racism.

Truth be told I don't like either of them,,,, the Democrat party is for the Government slowly taking over,,, today the Oil comapines (for your own good),,, then the Farms then everything else including what it is you do for a living. Obama is the head of that party right now,,,, and he has done little to convince me my thoughts are wrong about him.

I understand that politics in general can be confusing and hard to know who to trust but that is when you have to use common sense. Because to not choose is to not care at all and thats wrong. You have to decide who you think will make the right decisions for the country.

Then you should have said it, just like you've done tonight. There has NEVER been any need for all the vitriol and smears and veiled threats and insults hurled at not only the senator but his wife! Utterly uncalled for and ridiculous. If you got labeled as a racist, it's because of these kind of tactics which are unacceptable by the vast majority of Americans.

Yup! cushi, you picked up on that one. I also find it absurd that these racist commenters insist that when they emphasize Obama's middle name, which he himself doesn't use, they pretend it is harmless.
They don't admit that it too is a form of bigotry and racism and it is directed at those people who hate and stereotype all Muslims, despite the fact that Obama is a Christian.
And these same people are on here pretending they are innocent white people being accused of racism. Get the shovel.
