Crushed ice is depleted as well, and with the warmest months of summer just around the corner it's likely that the nation will face a Slurpee shortage rivaling the Great Slurpee Famine of 1902.

This really requires ice to be re-thought. If you want to conserve your ice you should cool your drink ahead of time, that way the ice has less work to do. Putting ice in a warm drink is just dangerously old-fashioned!

          Ind,

It's a good thing they included a graph on how this whole Ice Cube thing works. Some of our readers out there, including myself, may have been lost without it.

Thanks for lookin' out for us!

I saw this coming years ago and have been hoarding cubes. I have 27,000 pounds, all for sale for five dollars a cube in the near future. Muahahahahah!

This is indeed alarming. For too long we have taken the availabilty of ice cubes for granted. They are a finite resource and can be depleted.

There are a number of ways to extend the supply of cubes we have. One easy one is to use only four cubes per drink as opposed to the conventional six.

'Tis true! These guys can reap the rewards of having a stranglehold on the cube supply. For years big Cube has been telling us not to worry.

I went to the QT the other day, and ice was $2.79 a bag. only six weeks ago it was $0.99/bag.

Also, it is a poorly kept secret that big Cube has been hindering the development of smaller glasses that would use fewer cubes.

Oh my God , we must act now , it not to late , we need to cut our foreign dependency on Ice Cubes , Hybrid Ice makers and H2O credits for the rich , drive the price up so no one can afford to drink cold beverages or make them cut way back .

I saw a poor Polar Bear floating a piece of Styrofoam because there was no Ice for its Coke !

I fail to see the joke here. No ice is a serious matter. How the hell are we supposed to cool our drinks with no ice? And how many sprained ankles will go un-iced due to the lack of ice? No ice is a dire matter. Without it....society will crumble. Governments will fall. The world will fall into chaos!

Sorry you didn't like the article jbgiraffx.

I seriously doubt this little post is going to effect global climate change by as much as one billionth of a degree one way or the other. However, if I thought by posting satire I could make the world, or at least Propeller, a better place I'd probably post it daily no matter what I got called.

Its absolutely not funny. This whole ice thing needs serious thought and resolution. Part of the problem is the sheer size and volume of ice, compared to its thermal cooling capacity. I will be devoting the rest of the day to the development of either condensed ice, or, even better, dehydrated ice, although the latter is taking a bit more thinking time. I believe, as do the rest of you I assume, that smaller is better. Smaller cars, smaller portions, smaller carbon footprint etc.( or is it chloro-floro-carbons...I never know which is correctest.) Hence, smaller ice. (con'td)

Imagine how much more scotch one could fit in the same size glass with smaller, more colderer ice cubes. It would lead to greater demand for beverages since most people drink by the glass, not how much is in the glass. Beverage sales would skyrocket, jobs would be created, individual wealth would increase, mutual fund EFT's in the beverage industry would increase geometrically. But wait, what about the increase in raw materials, more grains, more fresh water, more fuel to transport the product, more R&D, more product liability insurance. This is a complete disaster. I've thought us right into a depression when all's I really wanted to do was help mankind. I appologize, and promise never to think about stuff again.

Looks to me like this is a way to raise the price on ICE. Start a buying frenzy! There is no telling where this will go! Global warning has to be the main cause just like the Arctic Circle. We are DOOMED!

Damn, NO ICE FOR MY TEA, now that really sucks!
