Bob Herbert says this isn't the Obama he thought he knew »

Posted By pc25 1 year, 4 months ago in News

Let's start off by acknowledging that Bob Herbert is as likely to vote against Barack Obama as ââ;¬Â¦ Michelle Obama. However, the bloom has definitely fallen off of the rose with the New York Times columnist, and he argues that Obama may have taken his supporters on the Left too much for granted.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/08/opinion/08her...

    from the original NYT article

"In one of the numbers from "Fiddler on the Roof," Tevye sings, with a mixture of emotions: "We haven't got the man ... we had when we began."

So there he was in Zanesville, Ohio, pandering to evangelicals........And there he was, in the midst of an election campaign in which the makeup of the Supreme Court is as important as it has ever been, agreeing with Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas that the death penalty could be imposed for crimes other than murder......There has been a reluctance among blacks to openly criticize Senator Obama, the first black candidate with a real shot at the presidency. But behind the scenes, there is discontent among African-Americans, as well, over Mr. Obama's move away from progressive issues, including his support of the Supreme Court's decision affirming the constitutional right of individuals to bear arms.

D-Day: Hey, quit your blubberin'. When I get through with this baby you won't even recognize it.

Otter: Flounder, you can't spend your whole life worrying about your mistakes! You f...ed up - you trusted us! Hey, make the best of it! Maybe we can help.

Flounder: [crying] That's easy for you to say! What am I going to tell Fred?

Otter: I'll tell you what. We'll tell Fred you were doing a great job taking care of his car, but you parked it out back last night and in the morning, it was gone. We report it to the police, D-Day takes care of the wreck, the insurance company buys your brother a new car.

    Flounder: Will that work?

Otter: Hey, it's gotta work better than the truth.

Bluto: [thrusting six-pack into Flounder's hands] My advice to you is to start drinking heavily.

Otter: Better listen to him, Flounder, he's in pre-med.

D-Day: [firing up blow-torch] There you go now, just leave everything to me.

If OBama doesn't watch it one day he will start talking Reagan-nomics and 'Trickle Down' for the economy.

This isn't the Bob Herbert I knew.

Actual, I don't recall the guy but he doesn't seem memorable so I might have just forgotten.

But Herbert expresses very well how disapointment with this week's Obama has translated into the dramatic loss of support from the left.

Except Obama isn't losing support from the left.

He has been making inroads on the right, which could look like losing the left if you squint with one eye and avoid actual poll numbers.

There is some possibility that Obama may be hurt by his continued flip-flops on where he will accept the nomination. He keeps having to move to a bigger stadium, which I think is just tacky.

McCain has announced he will accept HIS nomination at a quiet little cheese-and-wine brunch and Bush is especialy invited to be busy elsewhere that day.

Gee, I thought Obama would be calling his little secret meetings to tell the left wing nuts and moonbats that he has only been kidding about all the stuff he is now saying. I know they will believe him cause they believe anything he says. Isn't that right, CRYMT?
