"The GAO, a nonpartisan congressional watchdog, said in upholding Boeing's protest last month that the company would have had a "substantial chance" of being selected if not for flaws in the evaluation process."

That'd be the same tanker that McCain staffers (AKA lobbyists) swung a deal on away from an American contractor. Now it turns out the bid had "significant errors" and has to be rebid.

      Corruption, thy name is McCain.

Northrop Grumman Corp. and its partner Airbus were given the contract initially. Northrop has 120,000 employees....world wide. Boeing also contracts outside the US for parts, but is considering stopping that after recent problems with its 727's. Northrop currently gets 18.7 billion in defense contracts, & Boeing 27 billion. Both make political donations disproportionately to the Republican party, & Northrop spends nearly twice on lobbying @ 16.7 million in 06, to Boeings 9 million in 06.

The Northrop contract would have given jobs in Mobile Ala. Currently, Boeing contributes 1.5 billion to Alabama's economy & employs just under 6000 people there.

All that being said, I want that 35 billion spent here. I want Americans to have those jobs, if there's no other choice than to spend our money on 'defense,' while our infrastructure goes to hell. Maybe enough taxes could be generated to fix a bridge or two.

On the other hand, except for international (often based on bribery) sales of weapons, much of american "defense" industry would be unviable. You would support Europe refusing to buy any product of the american defense industry?

We need to get back as many jobs here in the USA as we can get! I will say that the Belgium and Dutch aircraft companies are excellent manufacturers. The process was tilted and unfair in the original defense decision.

        Thanks STONERS, nice find!
