This is a good one Altnrg. There are some very good ideas in the article. I especially liked the recycling of rainwater and the alternate building mnaterials.
But there is a danger also. We have to be vigilant against mandatory inclusions. These things have a way of becoming favorable to special interests.
An example would be the taking of land from private owners called Immenent Domain " for the good of society". Under the Bush Adm this has been bastardized into taking private citizens right to own because a business concern would yield a higher tax benefit to the state.
Don't believe it? Do some research. In my own state, a Shopping Center Developer was able to take land from private citizens for this exact reason.
We need change in 2008 and it is not just for going green.

Those things are easy to say and hard to do. Especially number 2. Some people in the LA area have to commute over 60 miles to work because that is the only house they could afford.
Number 3 is very difficult depending on your location. Where do you go to get salvaged materials to build a house economically? Those are usually more expensive because they are bought more for looks that utility. At present those are the only ones being salvaged.

Be cautious about adding something to your house. I live in Florida. I added to my house a solar water heater and solar pool heater. They ended up destroying part of my roof. So make sure if you add anything there are no negative results. I enjoyed the results of using them until I had to have my roof fixed. It was much cheaper on the electric bill. My hot water was very hot and I could use my pool except in the coldest part of winter. I would install them again if I could protect my roof.

I had two solar panels on my roof to heat my 80 gallon hot water tank, never had any trouble with leakage or destruction to my roof! I checked with the BBB for a quality company, before buying the solar panels and hot water tank system.
I like the idea of going green with my home!
Thanks altnrg.

There’s a great video on San Francisco I Am where hundreds of teens in the Bay Area ditched their video games at home and headed for the biggest green festival in the nation. The Festival was held in San Francisco and the kids learned AND taught one another about climate change and green jobs. Even Chuck D from Public Enemy was there.
