He seemed to stutter over and over. And he's again wrong. Crude oil prices dropped as soon as the President lifted the executive ban, without benefit of Congress doing anything. That was the flip side of speculation.
And, NO ONE has argued that it would have no impact on prices. Most agree it would have negligible impact at the pump. Many think that speculation would drive the price of crude oil down, however.
And he talks about refineries and pumps being at capacity. Why is that, you ask? Could it be because Congress won't allow new refineries to be built, even though they would be as much as 30% more efficient?
What a tool.

"The truth is that offshore drilling is a campaign gimmick that no one on both sides of the aisle is serious about. Everyone knows that any large scale offshore drilling program would not impact the market for 10-15 years. Even Bush and McCain talk about the value of offshore drilling being psychological. As we have seen with the falling price of oil over this past week, gimmicks and mind tricks don't help, but lowering demand does. The best way to get out of this crisis is to continue to lower our demand, and switch to alternative sources. That is Econ 101."
