There ya have it. Maliki said it word for word.. And all the stories giving statements that it isn't true come from the US military... Seems to me like Maliki spoke what he really felt, and he got scolded by the hand that feeds him until 2009...

As if there were any question.
Well ... some of our nation's more gullible can be dissuaded I guess what with all the Propaganda being stoked by Agents of Disinformation.
It was announced this morning on Good Morning America that al Maliki did indeed endorse Obama's plan.
Good Morning America!!
The same organization that gave Goerge W. Bush $640,000 to his 2000 campaign!!
MAN ALIVE! The WHOLE WORLD is fed up with the Iraq fiasco!
Well .. .not our nation's Neo-Conservatives ... they see war as a Product of the Economy.
See how Morally Vacant Neo-Conservatism is?

you can read the interview in transcript form here:
http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,151...
from the interview, verbatim:
SPIEGEL: Would you hazard a prediction as to when most of the US troops will finally leave Iraq?
MALIKI: As soon as possible, as far as we're concerned. U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama talks about 16 months. That, we think, would be the right timeframe for a withdrawal, with the possibility of slight changes.

SPIEGEL: Is this an endorsement for the US presidential election in November? Does Obama, who has no military background, ultimately have a better understanding of Iraq than war hero John McCain?
Maliki: Those who operate on the premise of short time periods in Iraq today are being more realistic. Artificially prolonging the tenure of US troops in Iraq would cause problems. Of course, this is by no means an election endorsement. Who they choose as their president is the Americans' business. But it's the business of Iraqis to say what they want. And that's where the people and the government are in general agreement: The tenure of the coalition troops in Iraq should be limited.

Maybe I'm missing something, but this does not sound like an endorsement of Obama.
OF COURSE, he wants troops to leave his country, but THINK! Does he want them to leave before he can handle security? NO!!! Why, in the name of all that's holy, would a man ask for his country to be thrown into chaos?
"...short time periods are being more realistic." YES!!! This is NOT an endorsement of an "End the war. - Obama position." It's an endorsement of a "Let's win the war soon" position.
Wow.
Obama said the surge would fail and HE OPPOSED IT, then he said the situation is deteriorating, then he said that the surge has not worked, then he said we are worsening the situation with the surge... Now, he says (a year later) that the surge has made things better and violence has reduced due to the troops.
So, when was he right? You cannot lead with a rear-view mirror and no foresight.

Oops, now they are going to force this guy to resign too. I think he may have just emboldened the terrorists.
