On Iraq, McCain pressed Obama over his opposition to the troop surge—the strategy that has reduced violence in Iraq and led to modest political gains for the al-Maliki government. This was smart. The topic is on McCain's issue turf, potentially puts his opponent at odds with the American generals who executed the surge, and makes Obama look like a hidebound pol who won't absorb new facts that contradict his predetermined conclusions. McCain's dumb attack came in a television ad that blamed Barack Obama for high oil prices. You might have thought the cause of the oil-price hike was war, SUVs, OPEC, speculation, and global demand for oil. Nope—it's Obama. By this standard, he should also answer for the Starbucks closings and the dent in my Honda.

The surge. The surge. The surge. The surge. It's all they know. NOTHING about not having enough troops in the first place. NOTHING about an ill conceived war in the first place. NOTHING about the scores of facts coming out that they freaking LIED. Nothing about us ignoring being asked to leave. NOTHING about whether violence is down or not, WE SHOULDN'T HAVE ATTACKED IRAQ!!! NOPE. Only thing fools want to talk about is the surge. Don't wanna talk about ignoring and firing generals who didn't 'go along.' Don't wanna talk about the dead. Don't wanna talk about the maimed. Don't wanna talk about the FACT that they wouldn't be dead or maimed if we hadn't done it in the first place. Don't wanna talk about the surge being a moot point, because the damage is already incalculable. Nope. Just wanna talk about that GD freaking SURGE! Maybe I'll be fortunate enough to see the fool McCain one day, & maybe he'll bring up the surge. Then I can tell him where he can put it.
