OK, time for the anticlimax. I know some of you have proposed intricate plans for how to do horrible things to these crackers, but I repeat…it's just a cracker.

Irrational and superstitious people go crazy over a piece of wafer? And do they really believe it's the body of Christ? Or just a symbol and not a sacred appetizer?

I was raised Catholic, and while I don't intend to provoke controversy, I've never had it properly explained how we are supposed to believe that it is LITERALLY the BODY of Christ, and yet somehow it isn't an act of cannibalism.

Either it's HIS body or it isn't; either we're eating a man's flesh or we aren't. I don't understand how we are supposed to believe in the literal transubstantiation, and yet see no miraculous blood or meat in the wafer that is presented.

Jesus was supposed to be the Word made Flesh, yet his miraculously restored body isn't flesh? It doesn't make sense to me.

I could accept it if the Church were to say that "Yes, the Eucharist is a form of cannibalism, but it is a sacrifice we make to honour our Lord" or some such explanation that doesn't so plainly contradict itself. But the transubstantiation of the host is at the core of Catholic belief, and yet they then claim that it isn't really the body of Christ because it's not cannibalism.

I think that's why I have never believed in the literal transubstantiation. I just take communion "in memory of him." I mean, for Christ's sake, the man was famous for using metaphors, can we give him the benefit of the doubt that he didn't transform the bread and wine of his friends at their final meal together into tender chunks of meat and warm, juicy wine? I think the last supper would have had a lot more revulsion and vomiting from the Apostles if he had dealt them that kind of surprise.
