The dollar has lost 60% of its value against the euro, and the once mighty dollar is losing its reserve currency role. The Republicans' policies have driven up the price of both oil and gold by 400%. Inflation is in double digits. Employment is falling.

Most of my conservative friends are highly educated, suscessfull and compassionate. What is the segment that these hardcore conservatives are coming from, that so dominate their party.

I can't understand their attitude of only thinking of themselves, and nobody else. Then they ******** christianity, as if it only belongs to them, and everyone else is a heathen. When on occasion I run in to people like that, I just ask if they have actually have read the Bible, and understand that there is a lot of compassion for those who are worse of in it. Generally there is a period of stunned silence, followed by : "You just don't understand...."

You really understand this well if you are planning a European vacation. I am try to save in every way possible for the pasting I am going to take when I convert my dollars. I just have to get adjusted to paying roughly 7USD for a beer and about the same for a Bratwurst. Only because I have hotel and airline points can I afford this.
A deplorable state of affairs as this is sure to create even more American xenophobes like Bush. No need to wonder where his b/w view of the world came from! He was referring to old Europe as well as the terrorists. Isn't it ironic that he had such limited foreign travel as a youth when he had such a grand opportunity. Now he has created a situation where few can afford to travel overseas. You never realize how good we have it or what else lies beyond our shores if you don't venture out. Pictures and documentaries do not replace the real world. A negative situation all around.

One segment is the Federalist Society, and another is far right christian conservatives. The Federalists & far right christians are attempting to infiltrate the judiciary (which they have done to an alarming degree) & rewrite the Constitution. One place where they cavort is at Regents University, owned by a far right christian. 150 hires into the justice department during this administration came from this third rate University, and some were put in positions of power over tenured employees. This is why NOTHING done by this administration has been investigated, and why NOTHING is done about those refusing Congressional appeals, and so on. Add to the mix powerful business people, and you have the third component.

Clinton's 1993 Omnibus Tax Reconciliation Act (passed w/o a single Repub vote) raised taxes on the wealthiest 1.2% of income earners and cut taxes on 15 million low-income families and 90% of small businesses.
He reduced federal spending by $255 billion. He cut the deficit in 5 years by $500 billion.
He expanded the earned income tax credit to poor families.
Despite Republican objections, he gave taxpayers a tax credit of $500 per child and credits for college tuition. He had to give in to the Republicans demand to reduce capital gains and estate taxes to the rich.
He created the Roth IRA.
He expanded the Pell Grants.
He raised cigarette taxes.
In his 8 yrs, the job market increased by 22.5 million jobs. Unemplyment was below 5% for 40 consecutive months. He initiated 116 consecutive months of economic growth, starting in 1994 and ending in 2004 after the Iraq invasion.
Inflation when Reagn left office was 4.7%. When Clinton left, inflation dropped to 2.5%.
He negotiated approx 300 foreign trade agreements. The lowered tariffs on US exports due to these agreements reduced prices to consumers and kept inflation low. Economists have called the combined lowered tariffs on US goods in foreign countries "the largest tax cut in the history of the world."
THAT IS WHY CLINTON LOOKED SO GOOD!!

right - it's war socialism at it's worst. the entire "community" has to pay for something that the politicians claim is for our own good - but in reality, all it is --- is theft. they transfer the wealth of the american people to makers of war. they pay people to fight and kill, they pay people to make guns and bombs that kill...and on and on and on...

Republican Economics:
--Tax breaks for the ultra-rich and massive Debt for the future generations
--Hundreds of billions in newly printed dollars to Wall Street crooks and devalued dollar for the rest
--Medicare policies that give Big profits to Pharmaceutical Companies and big expenses for seniors
--Wars that give big profits to private contractors and massive debt, high oil prices and death to the rest.
--Environmental policies that provide massive subsidies for a few companies and depleted resources and polution for the rest.

...the obstructinist repugs in the Senate with 49 votes and the Bush kisser liebermann! Heck ,one of Pelosi's first bills was to allow medicare prescription drugs to be negotiated since the repug law said they couldn't. Dumya has threatened to veto it in spite of the VA being able to negotiate and pay 58% less than the medicare prices (see wikipedia).... just one example of many in every commodity area of the abuse of mosr Americans by a few rich represented by big business lobbyists!
Hastert was able to put the house on a 4 day work week since big business lobbyists were writing the laws of the land. It wasn't called the 109th "Do NOthing" Congress for nothing! No investigations either! Then add Dumya's signing statements and failures to adaquately fund federal organizations with the mission of monitoring and controlling business for the greater good!

The article should have mentioned how the media over all has called Dems who do not side with Dumya unpatriotic... Just because a few dems have fallen victim to the media support of Dumya, doesn't mean this author should characterize the whole dem party as culpable too!
Only party with convictions at the presidential cabinet level in three different adminstrations (watergate. Iran Contra & Plamegate), and with 18 of the 22 most corrupt congressmen (CREW List under actual investigation) in spite of being the minority and Bush guidance to go after Dems only!

It's not Mission Accomplished yet! Be patient! The little turd still has a few months left to:
Achieve a dollar that's lost 90% against a Euro.
Achieve even more unemployment.
Get gas and oil prices up 900%
Find that last penny in a working American's pocket and loot that.
Kill another 1000 Americans and another 50,000 Iraqis.
Get the national debt up to 11 trillion.Then you'll see that little chimp grin with the words, Mission Accomplished Finally!
Relax. He's working on it!
