"The spokesman, Robert Gibbs, said Thursday that Obama made his decision out of respect for the servicemen and women, but Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign immediately criticized the move.
"Barack Obama is wrong. It is never inappropriate to visit our men and women in the military," said Brian Rogers, a spokesman for the Republican contender.
Obama's decision raised a number of questions because the visit, which had been scheduled for Friday, never appeared on the schedule of events distributed to reporters who are accompanying him on his travels"

I like how FSU's profile (which is now prominently displayed) says "I'm not a Republican or a Democrat.
LOL!!
Well, we KNEW he wasn't a Democrat ... as he spends his entire bio space blaming and whining about all things Democrat.
But he says he's not a Republican either?
Gosh ... maybe he's one of the few Righties who realizes there is no Republican party anymore ... as they have been absorbed by the Neo-Conservative movement ... a movement modeled after the old Soviet Union military expansionist credo.
Of course, I seriously doubt that FSU fully comprehends that this sea-change has occurred. I mean, does anyone on Propeller believe for a second that someone such as FSU, who ONLY insults others, has the mental capacity to exchange ideas, concepts ... to consider to ponder the ever changing landscape of politics in America?
If you have any doubt, scroll down to Will1313's comment in which he mentions that he has set up collection boxes for our nation's soldiers.
Then check out FSU's reply, in which he does what he ALWAYS does ... EVERY SINGLE TIME ... insults in just that way you expect someone without a Moral Compass to reply.
That's why I say Neo-Conservatism is a Morally Vacant Ideology. Look at who supports it. Look who apologizes for it.
The sad thing is ... The Republican Party used to stand for so much. Now ... it's just another morally vacant ideology ... like Communism.

What was Osama thinking ? What was so important in Paris that he couldn't stop by and see our wounded veterans?
This clearly shows America what he truly thinks of our military and their sacrifices.....
Who would vote for such a callous, uncaring individual ?
Oh, wait....I know....The dumba$$ liberals would because they ALSO don't give a crap about our military and what's best for our country....

Goppy, good to see you.
I thought about abandoning this website after Tuesday, but then I would miss reading your great commentaries ...and I would miss being a thorn in the sides of AG, FSU, libsR, and all the other n*tj*bs here...and unlike FSU, who says he "was sent here to earth by God to make liberal lives miserable," I could really care less...I HAVE A LIFE! I still cant seem to find any of my comments and when i do find the stories i posted on they seem not to be there i am hoping this is all a glitch and will be fixed soon....James.
I wonder if FSU knows that the pentagon told Obama he couldn't visit? I am betting this story will go away soon because is stands on shaky ground at best!

Why such a long personal attack against FSU? You can disagree without being disagreeable. The leftists have a lot more in common with the communists than the right wing ideologues. FSU has a right to whine about all things Democratic just as you have a right to whine about Republicans.
Back to the post, normally, the troops are not visited when it's part of a political campaign and Obama is only following McCains lead in this instance, at least as I understand it.

Did you read the article?
"...a decision his spokesman said was made because the Democratic presidential candidate thought it would be inappropriate on a campaign-funded journey."
It sounds to me that HE mad the decision, not the Pentagon...
Good try, though...
And even if you're story is true, couldn't he have said, "You know what? It's more important to me to see these guys and gals and show them we care and to thank them for their sacrifice to this country..."
That would have went over way better than simply ignoring them because he had to get to Paris....
and besides, would have made a great photo op for the faker....Don't you think, US ?

You know FSU you would be able to make some good points if you didn't make most of your posts with personal attacks. Also if you didn't call Obama Osama then you might be able to get some credibility.
Obama should have visited the troops, cameras or no cameras it shouldn't be an issue.

Don't waste your time with FSU because he supports his troops by staying away. He is stupid enough to believe that all military personal and veterans vote Republican and that Democrats don't care about the welfare of the troops. I too donate time and money for veteran organizations and truly care about the men and women in the service which is why I hate this administration using our military and weapon for their own personal vendetta. -

The thing is it took a Democrat to get our men and women proper medical care...wait that was an Obama bill wasn't it. While Walter Reed and the other hospitals were a mess under the republican (I care for our troops) congress. These people have lied to themselves for so long that they can't tell the difference between lies and the truth! Obama doesn't care for the troops but it took this first year senator to get the wounded troops decent medical facilities in our country!

No... the eyes are fine.....they see a lot of whats going down. I see the passion you have for a non Obama win. I would like to see an Obama win ..... I hate to say it but..."a change" is desperately needed in the US world of politics.... a change is needed in the way the US peruses its policies outside of its borders. I believe a lot of your citizens fail to see this. Why you say.... because of your die hard party loyalty. As a watcher of US and world affairs for several years now I can honestly say that something new has to come out of the US as far as an approach to world affairs. The problems that you now face are the result of poor foreign policy over the years.... policy that was driven by big business within your borders. Yes you have come to the aid of millions throughout the world in times of disaster...thats a good thing, but...what do people remember ...the bad things... Bush..Iraq...and possibly a problem with Iran. Most of these could have been avoided if intervention was properly carried out many years back... by that ..I mean talking the participants involved. The hole is pretty deep now... I see Obama as the one that will be viewed by countries other than your own as a possible solution. Remember the world gets smaller everyday...the Us is losing friends everyday ..... this is not a good path to follow. I do not view McCain as a viable solution .... the world does not view him as the one as well. Don't get me wrong McCain has some good qaulities that might have made him a great leader at another time...this is not the time.

After the last 8 years, I really don't think you can say with certainty what either Obama or McCain will bring to the Presidency. You don't know what the make up of the Congress will be, for one thing. Much of the destruction Bush caused was enabled by the GOP. Ironically, some of the positive results of Clinton's administration were a result of the same GOP Congress. When I hear doomsday, naysaying, cynical comments like yours, I have to ask what crystal ball you're looking into?

I feel badly for both you and FSU92.
Neither candidate represents change, just more of the same. But monopolization of the airwaves and press, combined with an enormous complex of echo chambers on the left and right, allow McCain and Obama to present their molehills of difference as mountains.
I agree, we need a change, desparately - but there is none to be found in American elections this time around.

So you are saying McCain is the better person for the job...why. Sitting here looking at the US political race I would have to say that McCain just doesn't have what it takes to revive the image of the US on the world stage.... far from it. Obama is a leader...with the right team in place he will lead you to a better life than you are experiencing at the moment.

Obama makes great speeches from a teleprompter but when it is off the cuff flubs around. McCain does his best off the cuff. Guess it was the military that thought the trip inappropriate...
A campaign adviser said the U.S. military saw the visit as a campaign stop.
"We learned from the Pentagon last night that the visit would be viewed instead as a campaign event," the adviser, retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Scott Gration, said in a statement. "Senator Obama did not want to have a trip to see our wounded warriors perveived as a campaign event when his visit was to show his appreciation for our troops and decided instead not to go."

It is very clear to me that the MONUMENTAL SUCCESS of Barack Obama's European trip has put John Insane and his neocon supporters knickers in a twist!! There are articles all over propeller, like this pitiful one, criticizing and attempting to rain on Obama's parade! They are acting like the Israelites who grumbled against Moses and God in the desert because they were sick of eating manna, so God sent quail, so much meat that they became literally sick from eating it!
Reply
They pushed and criticized and hounded Obama about not traveling to Iraq and other foreign countries, so he did, so and in grand style! More importantly, he was greeted everywhere he went in a manner that rivals that of a king or a great dignitary! Now pack leader Insane his underlings are all shook up and green with envy...gnashing theirr teeth, howling and protesting like a pack of wounded hyenas. They asked for it and they got it! The international community has embraced Obama with the same enthusiasm as his supporters here at home! Insane McCain pushed and prodded Obma to set sail on his fantastic voyage, and now McSame and his party supporters are bitter and pouting because they have had to watch his triumphant trip with envy from the shore! -

Gee lets see..... it was announced today that the budget for Secret Service needs an increase for protection of the candidates along with this extensive travel. Obama is traveling to Europe, talking foreign policy, shaking hands with the French President who we all know is no friend to the US, wooing over the German people like a modern day pied piper with his empty speeches. Now accepting campaign contributions from the European nations, and at the same time talking of improper actions of the US. HE IS NOT THE PRESIDENT. Then in the same breath decides it is improper to visit injured US troops. Men fighting for our freedoms, seperated from their loved ones, who need the support ,WHO HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE while defending our country. It is always PROPER to visit the troops, while it is not proper to go shooting your mouth off to people who do not have a standing in our elections!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? Let the DNC pay for the extra Secret Service budget if they want to send their boy over there, don't expect the American people to fork some more out of our tax dollars. What an insult to our troops.... maybe a blessing in disguise. Hope this is the beginning of the wolf in sheeps clothing making an appearance.-

Two things:
1. The Pentagon told Senator Obama that because it was a campaign trip, any visit to the troops would be seen as a political gesture and not a gesture of solidarity. Therefore, the Pentagon insisted that if he were to visit the troops he must do it alone with no pictures taken, either still or video and no staff.2. Senator Obama realized that what the Pentagon was saying (about it being a campaign funded trip) was accurate so he decided that indeed it would not be acceptable to visit them at this time.
Now, you can say what you want, but isn't it interesting that no request like that was made the last time Senator McCain visited the troops.
