The CONS are desperate. This nonsense is all they have, and they speak to an audience that in the past has shown little common sense. They're trying to overshadow the success of Obama's trip, & if I know the media, this ridiculous assertion is what they're focusing on.

Success of his trip ? It was an absolute failure....The polls have barely budged because of it....And btw, attracting 200,000 people in Germany is no small task....David Hasselhoff does it all the time...He's very popular in Germany...
And this assertion is true....Do you need more proof for your pathetic candidate ? Read on:
"Sen. Obama is welcome to visit Landstuhl or any military hospital in his official capacity as a United States senator," Morrell said in a brief interview. "But there is a DOD policy which governs campaigning and electioneering at military facilities that would have to be respected if he were to visit. That distinction was relayed and made clear to campaign, and they made a decision on their own based on that guidance."
Morrell, in a subsequent interview, added that military officials told Obama he could only visit the military facility with his Secret Service detail and Senate staff.
"We made it clear to him that campaign staff and press would not be permitted to accompany him," Morrell said of Obama. "We relayed those ground rules. They made a choice based upon the information we relayed to them. It was their choice. We had nothing to do with it."

From the ABC article: But after hearing from the Pentagon, he said, "We decided, Senator Obama decided having made that decision he was far more willing to take the criticism from some political people or political opponents in a political atmosphere than to put our troops in the middle of our campaign back and forth."
After reading the ABC article (in full) and looking into the links in the huffington post article, it appears to me that Obama's campaign people were getting a bit of a run around from pentagon people. "No, you can't...yes, you can...well maybe if..." I think his decision not to visit and risk putting injured troops in the middle was a good decision.
Alpha, Locky, FUS, et al will use anything to push their agenda. The truth doesn't matter to them.

As always, a double standard. I don't believe either candidate has sufficient control over what their "campaign" says. The party controls almost everything. How refreshing it would be to have a "clean" presidential election. I could envision two (or even better three) candidates in a president only election, no "coattail" senate/congress elections, and give the candidates complete control of their campaigns. I think we'd get a lot clearer picture of what each candidate really stood for. I guess I'm a dreamer.

Both McCain and Obama can't visit military bases while campaigning. So what's the problem? Both sides are following the rules. This makes sense.
I agree with you jordan11. They've got nothing on Obama so they have to make something up to attack him on. How has McCain supported the troops? His track record sticks. Yes he has two children who have served or are serving. Still hasn't stopped him from voting against bills that would benefit vets now does it.

McCain & his wife have plenty of $$$ to take care of any needs his children in the service have. Sadly, that certainly can't be said for most in the service. His children have nothing to lose when he votes against the needs of our Armed Forces. You're right, his record is nothing short of awful on vets issues.

At the Pentagon, spokesman Bryan Whitman denied that the Pentagon had discouraged Obama from visiting the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. Obama was "absolutely" told he could visit the troops at Landstuhl, said Whitman.
However, the issue of his visit was dealt with by hospital officials and military officials in Europe familiar with Pentagon guidelines for visits to military installations by a political campaign.
Whitman said Obama is "certainly welcome to visit a military medical facility any time he wants to," as long as that visit was consistent with that of a sitting senator.
He added, "We do have certain policy guidelines for political campaigns and elections and what's appropriate and not appropriate in those situations. But, the Pentagon, to use your words, certainly did not tell the senator that he could not visit Landstuhl."
Please use your head next time before you start babbling away at somthing you guys really know nothing about....

So, why did McCain cancel his visits to the troops in April? Still haven't answered that question.
McCain did in April what Obama just did. You didn't jump over your candidate then now did you. In fact your side defends McCain every time he vetos anything that would benefit vets and servicemen and women. Care to explain that? You can't. McCain is a party person pure and simple. His children are set for life.

What really makes me laugh is CNN , Fox ,etc. and how they make stories like Obama not seeing the wounded troops into a sensational extravaganza , interviewing everyone and their mother, knocking the heck out of the guy and the story and then they get the real story. Then it starts all over again.Was there ever a time when news people, reporters etc., actually looked for the truth before they put it to TV or the press? Are American people actually that naive or that gullible to believe most the nonsense on CNN, Fox etc ? Oh ya I forgot G.W.Bush was voted in for a second term.

Another non-issue to deflect the fact that Bush has promulgated the most failed presidency in American history.
A failed war, a failed economy, a failed foreign policy, a failed domestic policy. Bush's ONLY success has been fostering and abetting international terrorism for his own gain. History will reveal even MORE than we know now to further bolster this fact.

What's the next big Repuke issue, the color of Michelle's dress. They already have the paint job on Obama's airplane and this lame issue. The venue of Obama's speech was a biggie!

Once again the McCain supporters are trying to make something out of nothing. You guys need to remember who got us into this war, if it weren't for that we wouldn't have any wounded to be visiting. We should have finished the job in Afghanistan instead of going off to Iraq who was no threat to us.
