"Several people had head wounds, he said. Drevick had spoken to several eyewitnesses and said no one at the church recognized the gunman, who was tackled after he fired the shots," Drevick said. "The gunman had more ammunition on him", Drevick said.
"There were about 200 people in the church at the time of the shooting watching a youth performance being put on by 25 children."

He obviously had serious emotional issues, and Tennessee doesn't have progressive voices. They are inundated day and night with filth and bigotry from talk radio there. It isn't a stretch to realize how that constant bardardment of hate would affect someone with mental health issues.

I heard on the radio that the church had recently erected a sign welcoming their gay brothers and sisters. After his brainwashing by CONS, he apparently just snapped.-

Apparently their version of Christianity ahs nothing to do with the teachings of Jesus. it's jsut a club of people who bully because they want to feel better about being poor, uneducated, etc....

Congratulations to Bush Administration & the Supreme Court of John Roberts, Scalia, Alito, Thomas etc.,
No surprise here. Red State, Christians, Conservatives, Republicans and gun owners. I have been to Nashville and most pickups have bumper stickers that read:
GOD, GUNS & GUTS made America Great.
What lot of dumb idiots don't know is there is a PRICE!!!

Nikkibabe, you are a fool. So, I guess that since you said it that the state of TN is full of dumb idiots, right? I am glad that you are not surprised. Perhaps you will limit your future travel to anywhere but the state of TN. I am sure that no one there would mind that at all. Just wait until McCain gets elected in November.

Not too likely in a Unitarian/Universalist congregation!
Seriously though, there have been a number of shootings in churches over the last couple of years and armed guards are not unknown anymore.
A sad state when an armed guard is needed at a church, wasn't that long ago that churches never even had locks on the doors.

I remember a few months ago a security guard shot and killed a gunman at one of the big megachurches, but in that case, there were thousands of parishoners--any time you have a crowd like that, you need some security, or you're just a theater full of pigeons. Too many nutcases out there, that's for damn sure.

Funny- I never hear of liberals shooting or beating up conservatives. You never hear of gay people killing straight people, and you never hear of liberals going in and blowing up conservative churches.
Yet for some reason conservatives always try to act like they are victims!
This guy probably thought that if only women and mnorities were still discriminated against (more than they still are) then he would have a job! Because he is a white man, therefore he deserves a job!
Conservatism is for losers who don't want to take responsibility for their own lives.

Of course you don't hear about that. Why would you? Why would the liberal media report on things like that and expose those issues? You are a brainwashed liberal fool.

If this guy turns out to be a guy claiming to be Conservative, Evangelical Christian, I'm going to feel, again, that God doesn't shy away from making the world belief that His followers are creepy idiots. This story seems to be a double whammy against God believers, because, not only do you have a guy trying to kill people for being Liberal, you have it reported that ONE of the church members OF a church known for being anti-Christian AND Liberal, giving his life to protect fellow members. Making it sound like you don't have to be a God-believer to do heroic and noble acts of self-sacrifice, and, on TOP of it, possibly doing it without the hope of ever experiencing a Heavenly afterlife. Well, until further data, I'm going to take this as God's way of saying there is a final universal salvation.

As much as I'd love to make an anti-Con post out of this, I won't.
This incident has nothing to do with libs, cons, guns, religion, or any of the other subtexts.
This person went "off the hook" and, hopefully, will spend many, many, many years AWAY from the rest of society.
We live in a free country. One is free to do as one chooses. But one must live with the consequences of those choices.

Too bad the innocent victim has to live with the consequence of this person's actions!
We are not supposed to be free to kill, rob, rape....
Maybe we need stricter gun laws!
And more education, so people learn to think for themselves, rather than parroting whatever they hear around them!
