"The findings, based on nearly 50 million U.S. death certificates, are published in Monday's Archives of Internal Medicine. Of those, more than 224,000 involved fatal medication errors, including overdoses and mixing prescription drugs with alcohol or street drugs."
"Deaths from medication mistakes at home increased from 1,132 deaths in 1983 to 12,426 in 2004. Adjusted for population growth, that amounts to an increase of more than 700 percent during that time."
"In contrast, there was only a 5 percent increase in fatal medication errors away from home, including hospitals, and not involving alcohol or street drugs."

Picture a poor soul suffering from a terminal disease. He can lay there and slowly rot away in agony and suffering or he remembers his doctor saying, "Take all the morphine you need that I have left for you to suppress the pain, but don't mix it with any of the other drugs I have given you or you'll slip peacefully into a painless sleep and never wake up."
Gee, Doc, sure wouldn't want that to happen. I mean, it's much more fun dying here from colon cancer and regurgitating feces that can no longer be evacuated through the bowels. See ya' tomorrow.
That's why people come home to die rather than in a hospital where they MUST keep you alive at $35,000 per day.
What would you do?
