As someone who has scrimped and saved to do a home improvement project here and another there, I'm sure there are many Americans who have lost or who fear losing their homes to foreclosure (perhaps because they maybe refinanced to improve the value of their homes) who are looking at this case and feeling like major suckers for playing by the rules.

Hey, just one of the 18 repugs on the CREW list of most corrupt congressmen with no Dem senators on the list! What do you expect from the bridges to nowhere man and the man who told the big oil CEOs that they didn't even have to pledge to tell the truth to Congress under the former 109th "Do Nothing" Repug Congress!
Amazing that this happened under a justice department with guidance from Dumya to only go after Dems! Heck, this is why those 8 Justice prosecutors were defamed and fired by Gonzo! How can this happen under Mukasy and he ignores all the subpoenas and contempt charges of Congress? Maybe the honesty of the Justice Department IG on Goodling has had farther reaching influence! Wow, this means the Bushies didn't clean out all the good people in the Justice department - thank God !

I have often found it strange that certain politicians are always voted in. When it has become obvious that they have been in the office so long. There is no way that these politicians could possibly stay in favor with their voters, just the big money voters would keep them in. When the big money voters get their way at having money and contracts all the time. That which the small business sees becomes evidently clear that there is some kind of money racket going on. Which makes it clear that there is some sort of voting racket going on. Our state election systems needs more scrutiny. However with the amount of pay that they receive from their office is often so high that they cannot help but become wealthy with power, money and temptation.

I hear you. I think it has to do with all politics being local for most voters. It seems reasonable to me that if people feel their elected officials are doing a good job of advocating for their state then , for many people, that's sufficient grounds to re-elect them. My impression is that because we're all egocentric to some extent, most people don't feel they have the luxury to ask themselves whether voting for their respective state representatives is both good for them, for their state and for the country as a whole.

What surprises me the most about this case is the fact, as donald51 has noted, that the Justice Dept. is prosecuting a Republican. And it is even more surprising because a Democrat is already ahead in the polls against Steven for the Senate and this will practically ensure a Republican defeat in Alaska. This is the same tactic, in reverse, that the Justice Dept. was directed to follow - targeting the prosecution of Democrats running for Congress to ensure a Republican victory.

Before you make claims like this, please visit Milwaukee. We make the Daley Machine in Cook county look honest. We've had voter fraud going on while being filmed for years. Yet our DA, who is a life member of the DNC never could quite gather enough information to prosecute them. ABC news filmed a woman from the New York DNC buying votes for smoke with the homeless. She was passing out absentee ballots already filled in for all DNC candidates. The homeless filled out their names and then got the smokes. All on tape, the DA refused to go after her. There were over 500 votes purchased like this at just this one mission. We have dozens like this all over the city. Had this been properly investigated, Wisconsin would have gone to Bush in 2000 and Florida wouldn't have mattered. But again, in my city and state, the DNC is the party of corruption.

Whoaah... That was really outer limits spooky. I glanced at the date and caption under the photo above and for several moments couldn't figure out how Stevens had already been photographed heading to a July 31 (tomorrow's date) luncheon when I haven't even finished breakfast here. Weirdness. I need a cup of coffee now, I think. ;-(

I'm not a fan of Stevens. No offense but I think at 84, it's time for him to retire. On the whole scope of the crimes, Alaska has a wild west feel at times. I suspect you will find in the future, corruption on both sides of the isle.

I'm an ultra conservative, get rid your that neo crap you guys love to spew.
As to corruption, you're talking about the GOP? We run from this kind of thing. He'll be under the train wheels before the day is over. The GOP doesn't stand by or circle the wagons like the DNC folks do.
One major problem I have with this and the reactions of the liberals is convicting him before a proper trial. Why is it you want terrorists to have more rights than an American citizen accused of corruption? The mad needs to be tried and convicted by a jury. Not a bunch of lefty bloggers always attacking members of the GOP. Until he's tried and convicted, he's innocent. Unless this is another one of those changes you guys are always promising.
