You had to know that the hate filled rants of these, and other right-wing pundits would lead to this some day.

Sad that these virulent talk show hosts can get away with such hate speech on our public airwaves.

It seems like it's always the right wingers that are going around doing the shooting and bombing. Churches and family planning clinics are the most popular targets of those crazies.

This brand of Republican is really strange. These people say they are religious, but they are hyporcrits. They use fear and ridicule to make their own fall in line. They have no moral sense or respect for others.

These New Order Republicans need to hit the road. Maybe we can find them a place in a part of Germany they'd like.

...And belated congratulations to Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage, and Sean Hannity.

They have been sowing the seeds for years. I hope they now enjoy the harvest.

FOX needs to give all of them a huge raise and extend their contracts.

What needs to happen here is for people to start taking responsibility for their own actions and stop blaming their mental illness, stupidity and crimes on those around them. If Fox and their broadcasters are to blame, then we are all in big trouble seeing that they have the highest rating for news. We all better become very good at dodging bullets.

When I saw the 20,000 thousand people that ATTENDED THE FREE MOVE ON ORG CONCERT stay and listen to bull **** Obama apologize for the US to the country who started the 2nd WW it turned my stomach. This is the guy who is going to bring this country together! The parade of adoring LEFT WING LIBERAL MEDIA fawning over his ass is sickening. But then I may be wrong since I've only had 68 years experience of working my ass off un like the Bull Shit Artist the LIBS ARE PUISHING DOWN OUR THROATS. Blame it on REED, PELOSI and the spineless SOB's that have been running Congress for 2 years that the poor demented NUT shot up the church.

This is a blatant attempt to find an excuse to stifle free speech. If the liberals could establish talk shows that people listened to they wouldn't be trying to block what is available.
In totalitarian, communist, (yes, and Hitler) and fascist countries the only speech allowed is speech that supports the current group in power.
There are all kinds of criminals who attend various churches, play video games, listen to radio and TV. And there are groups like PETA and Earth First who base their activities on liberal ideas.
These people are responsible for their own actions.

It's lunatic to posit partisanship of any brand as the fulcrum or rationale of the guy's actions.

But from the psychological POV, the hatred of liberals and gays DOES point to an authoritarian mindset, which is characterized by, among other things, a penchant for moralizing, for dichotomous thinking (right/wrong, good/bad, strong/weak, etc.), and the love of order and control.

Draw your own conclusions about which kinds of people share this worldview--which is NOT to say that said people are by definition given to criminality.

I've seen some off the wall posts here before but to blame radio hosts for deviant behavior is beyond absurd. It's the same logic as I washed my car so it's going to rain. Please the man is a lunatic killer. Is Gore responsible for the unibomber who was caught with his book? Of course not.

Amazing, seems some want to ban any form of news analysis that isn't far left bias or mostly liberal. Liberal media outlets out number conservatives by a huge margin. What next book burning? If you don't like Hannity there is Alan Colmes. He has just as much air time as Sean Hannity, he has his own radio show, his opinions are liberal, from moderate to far left so he offers something for all.

Everyone must take responsibility for their own actions. The church shooter allowed his anger to turn into rage. Just like a bully or abusive husband, he attacked the innocent. Want to know how to stop violence, check out: www.stephanielmann.com

I posted this on the last story about this gunman, and I feel it needs restating here:
        The politics of hate.

How can anyone grow to hate liberals so much? Constant messages about liberals being evil and morally vacant and doing the devil's work.

Yet what do I see on this thread?

A bunch of liberals saying that all conservatives are evil, morally vacant, and doing the devil's work, and vice-versa.

What makes a man go crazy and do something so terrible? He's been brainwashed by the repeated mantra: the other side is evil, the other side is evil, the other side is evil...

Sure, Karl Rove may have played a part in the politics of hate being so widely accepted, but anyone who lumps all 'conservatives' or 'liberals' into one huge category of badness is just as responsible because they ACCEPTED the politics of hate, and they SPREAD it.

Some people (conservatives and liberals) are far more open to the power of suggestion. This guy probably heard from his friends and coworkers day after day "liberals are ruining the country"... and so, he decided to do the only rational thing he could to try to save the country: kill as many liberals as he can.

toph, I don't mean to pick on you, but you provided a couple of excellent examples on the other thread:
"65 million people that voted for Bush the second time are all insane."
        and
"And who is to blame for the ruination of the country? The Conservatives."

Based on that message, the solution is simple: either lock up those 65 million in an insane asylum or kill them, and you'll save your country!

And here we have from DKAL:
"No Liberalism is definitely a mental disorder as witnessed by ecoterrorism, the 60s radicals like Obama's buddies from the Weathermen, and the guy who set off the bomb in Times Square in front of a recruiting station."

Again, lock up all the Libs in a mental asylum (or kill them) and there will be no more problems).

Having dissenting opinions is healthy and leads to better decision-making. Demonizing the other side is NOT, because it leads to dismissing their opinions altogether, even when they may be valid.
