Obama in rural Missouri »
Posted By Mdiar 1 year, 4 months ago in NewsWhen recent Missouri Democrats have won in statewide elections, they have done so by cutting into their losing margins in rural and southwest Missouri while carrying the urban areas of St. Louis and Kansas City.
That's the path followed by Democratic U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, who traveled in an RV throughout rural Missouri when she unseated Republican Jim Talent two years ago. McCaskill, an Obama backer, has urged him to follow her lead.

I thought this was a good look at what will be an important area of an important state this coming election. While it is almost definitely going to go Republican, by how much?
I live here and I can tell you how his visit was taken. It was taken as a positive, overall. Even just the fact that he showed up to visit a fairly Republican area, in a county he didn't carry in the primaries in my case (Clinton 52%), speaks well of him for a few undecideds around here. The people may not vote for him, but they enjoyed the fact that he came, even the church groups which appeared to be protesting abortion.

I should also point out just how good it is that Obama has a strong ally in Sen. McCaskill in this area of Missouri. She was born in Rolla, spent her early days in Houston (small Missouri town), then Lebanon. She knows the area and can be of immense help for Obama.

Obama said that he may not be able to prevent plants from closing and the jobs shipped overseas. But, if elected president, he said he could stop the tax breaks that often reward such behavior.>>>>
It's always especially sad when people from small rural areas lose their jobs. They don't have a lot of area businesses to fall back on, as people in large cities do. Then of course they need money to move if they need to look elsewhere for a job, and where do they get the $ to relocate if you don't have a job?

A recent factory closing around here put my brother out of a job. He was quality assurance and thus, was kept on longer then most of the others, but eventually it all went to Mexico. For him it was a positive as he had an opportunity to go to college that would have not otherwise existed, but for many around here its not had a positive result as his case has.
