"The Justice Department was about to file criminal charges against the scientist, Bruce E. Ivins, 62, a leading military anthrax researcher who worked for the past 18 years at the government's biodefense labs at Fort Detrick, Md., the Los Angeles Times reported in Friday editions. Ivins had been told of the impending prosecution," the paper said.

agree. there have been many reports that the fbi's investigation has been politically directed for years now. bruce ivins was not mentioned in any other story i've seen. it looks like someone decided to close the case by suiciding a plausible candidate, in order to protect the guilty.
look at the other name in the tags.

This is just a red herring to cover up the investigation into the real anthrax killer, Dr. Philip Zack, a zealous zionist, who worked at the same lab and who is being protected by the Jewish lobby in Washington. He was the prime suspect at the time and they have videos of him sneaking into the lab at unusual hours.
Reply
I guess they couldn't pin on Hatfield, so theypicked an unassuming type who wouldn't fight back, hoping to close the issue off without having to arrest Zack.
The whole rationale is too flimsy: someone who won awards for good citizenship wanting to test his own vaccine on unsuspecting citizens is absurd. Scientists know they need to control an experiment, not just throw something out there in the general public, to test something. But Zack had a motive... to compel the US into a false war with Iraq for the protection of Israel.
Was it really a suicide? Not sure on that point. It does seem odd for a scientist to pick Tylenol when there are probably more effective means. -

why does this seem odd? you have a drug that will make you feel "good' and sleepy mixed with the tylenol which in an overose will damage your liver, so even if they find you before you die, there is not much the doctors will be able to do

Berkeley, please explain about the other name.

What I found strange was if Ivins and Hatfield were both being looked at, why did they stay after Hatfield? Doesn't the FBI do handwriting analysis anymore? The envelopes were addressed by hand.-

This afternoon, Ivins’ attorneys at Venable, Paul F. Kemp (pictured) and Thomas M. DeGonia, released the following statement:
Reply
For more than a year, we have been privileged to represent Dr. Bruce Ivins during the investigation of the anthrax deaths of September and October of 2001. For six years, Dr. Ivins fully cooperated with that investigation, assisting the government in every way that was asked of him. He was a world-renowned and highly decorated scientist who served his country for over 33 years with the Department of the Army. We are saddened by his death, and disappointed that we will not have the opportunity to defend his good name and reputation in a court of law. We assert his innocence in these killings, and would have established that at trial. The relentless pressure of accusation and innuendo takes its toll in different ways on different people, as has already been seen in this investigation. In Dr. Ivins’ case, it led to his untimely death. . . .

You mean like the "anthrax" Colin Powell held up to congress and the Conservatives all said we should go to war for?
Reply
One of the war motivations we're now ALL questioning? And maybe this guy Ivins could name some names? Was he a loyal soldier? Loyal to Bush and Cheney?

What has happened to our government? They persecuted Hatfill for years, destroying his reputation and career, before exonerating him and paying out almost $6,000,000.00 in damages. Lately they screwed over the tomato farmers only to find out the problem is Mexican Chile Peppers (so we're told).

They'll throw anyone under the bus just to look like they are doing something. This sh!t has to stop. -

It's August 2008. How many other "mysteries" will be solved before the Bushistias leave office and real investigations can be opened? Will Christine Whitman (ex-head of the EPA) have a fatal accident so we don't find out more about the White House changing reports on the dangers posed by the debris in the air after 9/11? 7 out of 10 Firemen are suffering from respiratory disease ( "We're dead men walking")

To Outis -- You are precisely right. The senior people in the current administration really are vile. Given what we have already seen, the depth of their depravity is hard to imagine. Let us hope there will be real investigations after this Sleaze is out of office.

A suicide under these conditions can (and will be by some people) be interpreted as an admission of guilt. Though a drug OD seems a little unusual because it is not normally considered a "male" suicide method.
Reply
But didn't the DOJ just say basically that they were barking up the wrong tree with Hatfill? I have to believe that the evidence connecting Ivins wasn't as strong as that or they would have been concentrating on him to begin with. This whole thing has a bad smell to it.-

Exactly chevydoc, and why put a surveillance detail on Ivins FOR A YEAR unless it was to harass and humiliate him. The anthrax letters were years and years ago. What do they hope to accomplish by putting surveillance on him day and night? Makes no sense.

There was no suicide, there were no murder victims, there was no investigation and no one was wrongly accused or paid millions for the loss of their reputation and career.

George Bush says we haven`t been attacked since 9/11, so none of this actually occurred.

The more I think about it, the more the Philip Zack theory smells. The anthrax letters were a government conspiracy to silence the television networks, the newspapers and Congress, and it took place ten years after Dr. Zack left Fort Detrick. It is also difficult to believe that several brilliant scientists acted like rejects from the KKK. It's called muddying the waters.

There has been epidemic of rubouts of microbiologists in recent years, however. Read "Live Dangerously: Be a Scientist," at http://www.unknowncountry.com/news/?id=4599

Another scientist involved in disease control has been killed. David Banks was the principal scientist with Biosecurity Australia and was involved in containing pest and disease threats. He died along with 15 other people when the commuter plane he was traveling in went down in Queensland, Australia.
The communications manager at Biosecurity Australia described it as a devastating loss for the country. His primary mission was protecting livestock and plants in the country, and keeping diseases from crossing into Australia. He was an expert in the propagation of diseases by insect vectors, among other things. -

Since January of 2004, more than twenty scientists are known to have died in accidents, under suspicious circumstances, or been murdered.
Reply
Tom Thorne and Beth Williams, prominent experts on chronic wasting disease, were killed on December 29, 2004, in a road accident.
In November, the former head of the Infectious Diseases Unit of the National Institute of Allegies and Infectuous Diseases died in Mexico, with no cause of death given.
In October, Matthew Allison was killed by an explosion in his car, either due to a bomb or a self-induced explosion. He had degrees in microbiology and biotechnology but was not apparently involved in the field when he died.
In August, Dr. John Clark, an expert in animal science who developed the techniques that led to the creation of Dolly the sheep, the first cloned animal, was found hanged in his home.
In July, Dr. John Badwey, a biochemist at Harvard Medical School, developed a pneumonia that could not be diagnosed and died.
In June, Dr. John Mullen, a McDonnell Douglas nuclear scientist on contract to Boeing, was killed by a massive dose of arsenic. Also in June, Dallas county's chief epidemiologist, Dr. ****** Tulu, died of a hemmorhagic stroke, believed to be an accidental death. -

Dr. Eugene Mallove, an alternative energy expert and cold fusion researcher, was beaten to death in May near his home. He had just published a letter stating that it was only a matter of months before the world would see a free energy device.

Also in May, the body of senior programming ******** William T. McGuire, was found in three suitcases in and around the Chesapeake Bay. His murder remains unsolved, and no motive has been uncovered. He was an adjunct professor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
In March, Louisiana State University emeritus professor of microbiology Dr. Vadake Srinivasan died in an auto accident apparently caused by a stroke.
In January of 2004, Dr. Michael Patrick Kiley, an expert on Mad Cow and Ebola died of unexpected heart failure, and Dr. Robert Shope, a virus expert died of lung transplant complications.
In October of 2003, another LSU professor, West Nile researcher Michael Perich, died in a single-vehicle car accident.
In July of 2003, British biological weapons expert David Kelly died after allegedly slashing his own wrists while walking near his home. He was the Ministry of Defence's chief scientific officer and senior adviser on biological weapons to the UN biological weapons inspection teams in Iraq.
Dr. Leland Rickman, an expert on infectious diseases and consultant on bioterrorism at the University of California at San Diego died during a visit to Lesotho.
The list is a long one, and it goes on. Since 2001, there have been 47 such deaths reported outside of Iraq, and reputedly numerous scientsts in Iraq who worked on Saddam Hussein's weapons programs have been assassinated.
