It seems as if it would be the perfect life, and perhaps it would be. But I read a survey recently that claimed only 900 novelists in the United States make their living solely from writing novels, or about 700 less than the number of men playing in the NFL. This certainly appears to stack the deck against the vast majority of us hoping to quit our jobs and write full time.
