McLame's "challenge" is like a little league team challenging the Yankees to a baseball game and then telling them that they are afraid if they don't go for it.

Let McSame rule supreme in his strip malls and rinky dink, seeded with sycophants town halls
McCain and Bush are famous for only speaking in front of hand picked supporters who are paid to respond like the shills they are.
Obama will debate McInsane on level fields in front of non-partisan audiences. Repuke vomits don't understand this conception of fair play.
Listen to them whine and cry, waaaah waaaahhh waaaaaahhh!-

Remember when McCain baited Obama into going to the ME by saying that Obama hadn't been to the ME in years, and Obama went and crowds followed him everywhere?

Obama will sink McCain in any forum. He doesn't have to play by McCain's rules, and he won't. -

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's paid political hacks telling me what I'm tired of hearing. The only thing I'm tired of hearing is the never ending stream of lies and garbage directed from the right against the left.
Reply
Do these people really think it's an accident that after a decade of blaming the left for everything from high gas prices to an abundance of flies at the Sunday picnic their less stable members are busting into CHURCHES and shooting the worshipers? Enough already.-

I just don't see what Obama is afraid of. He is suppose to be very well educated, a great speaker and very charismatic. I would think he would jump at the chance to debate McCain. If he does not like the idea of a town hall style meeting, then come up with an alternative. What exactly is he hiding from? It's reasons like this that makes me not trust him. How is he going to make it as president if he dodges a simple thing like this. Debates have been key to elections for decades, why won't he debate McCain?

There are going to be three debates... these are already scheduled.
Reply
Why should he be baited into more debates by little Johnny McCain calling him a chicken ( like he is in a grammar school playground). Thank God Obama is above these juvenile tactics. -

cori64, you say you don't see what Obama's afraid of, referring to his turning down McCain's town-hall proposal.
Reply
He's not afraid. He's doing what every good politician does. And McCain would do the same if he was as popular as Obama with as much more media coverage as Obama gets. Reagan did the same to Walter Mondale in 1984--not because he didn't think he could sway more people in a debate, but because you don't give a struggling underdog free publicity.
In any political campaign, it's about getting the message you want to promote to the voters. In this case, Obama has tons more money, and you can be certain that in the coming months, he'll have no trouble getting his messages out. So McCain wants to share the attention Obama gets, which can be accomplished through more joint appearances.
Apart from that, town-hall meetings are known to have been stacked with supporters and plants before, and they could be again. Obama has suggested moderated debates. Regardless of what you might think about mainstream media bias--and I'm not a huge fan of mainstream media either--having debates moderated by professionals has at least a better chance at objectivity. And a better chance at sticking to issues facing the nation (like the war, the economy, and policies the president could affect) as opposed to non-issues that have nothing to do with what the andidats would do as president (questions about their personal lives, "patriotism," or vague connections to associates).

Because for a NeoConArtist, "Debate" translates as "Ambush"; a forum of the NeoConArtists choosing, packed with NeoConArtist psychophants...McCain CANNOT afford to screw up in front of a bipartisan crowd and media from both sides...his empty rhetoric would be exposed without anybody able to cover for him like Couric did!!!

John McCain is eaten up with jealousy of the fact that Obama goes to Europe and thousands and thousands come out and cheer. McCain would have been lucky to get hundreds. And don't forget--he's the one who constantly sniped at Obama because he hadn't been to Iraq, etc.
Reply
McCain's frustrated as heck because in spite of his money, his young trophy wife, he's still just a tired, boring old man. He's 70+ but he's trying to compete with someone in his 40s who actually might have a new approach to tired old career politics...
McCain, a military BRAT, with an admiral father and an admiral grandfather, has been coasting through life all his life. (He's been accused of getting very special treatment in Viet Nam after they found out his daddy was an admiral.)
Right now he's wearing loafers that cost over $500 on his old feet. How many of you out there can afford that kind of shoes? Payless is more my style, and if it's over $40, forget it.
McCain was always a brawler, (brags that he likes to fight) a party-boy, and he cheated on wife #1, (admits it) and dumped her and the kids, even though she had had a horrible auto accident and had to learn to walk all over again & lost over 4 inches in height. Then he married the very rich, and much younger Cindy Hinsley, daughter of a beer magnate.
And he called his wife the c-word in front of 3 reporters back in his 1992 senate campaign. All because she told him his hair was getting a little thin on top. What a jerk. It wasn't reported, because back in 1992, reporters didn't know what to do with someone uttering 4 letter nasty words in public.
Don't take my word for it-- Read the book: THE REAL MC CAIN by Cliff Schecter or go to the website: www.vietnamveteransagainstjo...com/
or read about it in the article about John McCain on the Huffington Post by Sam Stein. -

McCain's campaign got it wrong. Obama knows he is at a disadvantage without a prepared speech. He would do the town hall thing if he thought he could win in that format. He doesn't need to do townhalls or debates now anyway. Maybe later if his numbers go down.

Well, Sabretooth, you missed the attack ad against Obama, that just had its 24 hrs run out.

Hmmmm...
You know, I can probably paraphrase and save you the trouble of reading over 300 comments, though a number were quite witty.
FROM THE RIGHT:
1) Obama is a coward.
2) Obama cannot speak publicly without a teleprompter.
FROM THE LEFT:
1) John McCain will pack the audience with his supporters. Obama shouldn't go.
2) Yes he can.
Which I think is a MUCH more substantive argument than the previous free-for-all of:
FROM THE RIGHT:
Obama is too young.
FROM THE LEFT:
McCain is too old.
I, for one, am glad to see us finally getting down to REAL issues!

Obama would never appear with a racist pig in any debates except the Presidential debates over national networks.
Reply
Obama cannot stoop to such low levels to appear with a confederate racist who had the courage to bring out 2 blond bimbos to attack his opponent of color after 235 years of slavery.
Let the dirty old white man RIP, may be a in a special cell in HELL. -

Obama is running scared. He has a very good reason, the longer he runs the more his true colors comeout. He would make a very good leader in many radical Muslim countries. He will NEVER be the President of these United States. This is an opinion, which we are still able to have I believe.

I suppose to speak before 200,000 people and give them some type of hope is a bad thing. To speak hope and Change to live a Better life than in McCain 24 years in Congress of dong nothing but complaining. When Opportunity came to do good he refuse Apologize 23 years later is alright. To be a POW is a Terrible thing not nowing whether you will live or Die Is Bad,Awful and I can not Imagine How he felt. We owe him Gratuity and Thank you But he did not save us we still lost that War.
