Because for a NeoConArtist, "Debate" translates as "Ambush"; a forum of the NeoConArtists choosing, packed with NeoConArtist psychophants...McCain CANNOT afford to screw up in front of a bipartisan crowd and media from both sides...his empty rhetoric would be exposed without anybody able to cover for him like Couric did!!!

This is foolish. While the conventional wisdom is that the leader doesn't debate, Obama is a much better speaker than McCain. He should not start being cautious. The election has not been won. He should be taking every chance to debate. It drops my evaluation of Obama.

It would not be advantageous for Barack! He would make mincemeat of John McCain, and then he would be painted by the neocons as hateful and disrespectful of an "honorable man...a war hero?...a man with physical disadvantages....blah blah blah.

They would not hesitate to do what they do best - smear and label their opponents negatively to make their severely unqualified candidate a sympathetic figure to the American voter. -

True! The leader doesn't debate, however Obama’s desperately clinging to a 1 to 2 point lead in most polls and is behind in polls of “likely voters”
“He should not start being cautious. The election has not been won. He should be taking every chance to debate. It drops my evaluation of Obama”
Agree his excuses just get lamer as each day passes.
He agreed to debate McCain anytime anywhere till he got the Dem nomination and ran scared.
Last week he claimed to be a descendent of “Wild Bill Hitchcock” and was ready to duel with McCain over taxes (we assume he meant debate as opposed to an actual duel with guns)
And when called out on that Obama bails once again!
Perhaps we should call him Barack “Bolter” Obama -

I'll say it again ....Obama's oratory skills are exemplary....so long as he is "talking" to a crowd of thousands with no concerns about having to answer impromptu questions ...he is an excellent speaker.Town hall meetings are about getting down with the voters hearing their concerns and responding to them.Obama cannot hold his own in this enviroment without his handlers telling him what to say ...McCain on the other hand seems to thrive in this ,welcoming questions etc from the people.
Reply
Each time Obama has had to speak "off the cuff" he has put his foot in his mouth ....comparing him to Lincoln is the funniest thing I 've heard ....he(obama )is a joke.

Why would Obama bother to debate a senile old fool like John McCain?
Reply
The Wall Street Journal (hardly a bastion of liberalism) ran a recent poll that showed Obama's voter breakdown as 44% excited to vote for him, 33% satisfied voting for him, 22% voting for him because he's the lesser of two evils.
McCain's breakdown was 14% excited, 42%satisfied, 43% lesser of two evils.
That's 77% excited or satisfied vs 60% excited or satisfied and it is EXCITED that gets people to the polls.

You do realize the poll you cite was done BEFORE Obama’s disastrous great European adventure?
Reply
Obama’s plunged 8 points upon return from that trip.
Anyway, excitability? What are we talking about? little children?
Things in that poll you didn’t mention such as
Being knowledgeable and experienced enough to handle the presidency
Obama 18 McCain 53
Being a good commander-in-chief
Obama 25 McCain 53
Being honest and straightforward
Obama 29 McCain 33
Having the strong leadership qualities needed to be president
Obama 31 McCain 42
Polls done AFTER Obama’s disastrous great European adventure?
Gallup Tracking 07/31 - 08/022 684 RV 45 44 Obama +1.0
USA Today/Gallup 07/25 - 07/27 791 LV 45 49 McCain +7

I am with Obama. John "hypocrite" has stooped to such low levels of decency, there is no point to debate with him on anything. He has no plans, no agenda and no clue about what the country needs. All he is doing is personal attacks on Obama about his skin color, race, his character and his agenda for the country.

People are learning about Obama and who he really is in spite of him not doing anything unscripted.
Reply
If you read his books that he wrote about himself you would see that he is far from presidential material.
He is by his own admittance a friend to many terrorists and Idolizes Marxists and Communists.
This stuff is all coming to the surface, and this arrogant man is losing points daily in the poles.
Now by him putting the racial spin on things he is losing more of the white votes.
Without those votes he will lose. -

Obama is the more visible and the more popular candidate. A series of town halls and/or debates would simply give McCain more visibility, and so, it would be bad strategy for Obama to agree to such a thing.

Did I read that someone thinks McCain is a good speaker? When 75,000 people in Oregon attended an Obama appearance, they thought he was great. Two hundred thousand in Berlin cheered him on, and McCain well he met with a selection of his Choir. At least they didn't boo him.
Reply
McCain PR people wrote that Obama can't speak. McCain supporters and a few people on this thread took up the chant and repeat it often and as if it were true. They know better.
McCain can't hold a candle to Obama and just about everyone who has listened to both will agree with that assessment. But McCain and his friends have got to be in denial.
This is the reason McCain handlers rejected the Obama offer to have debates, instead McCain people wanted "Town Hall" meetings where McCain could fare better.
McCain knows this, his handlers know this, why is it that there are some on this thread who don't know it? Since some few people think McCain is the best speaker with the best message, just be patient lads and lassies, he will get his chance to flop or soar after labor day. Don't bet the farm on your hero.
I wouldn't vote for McCain if he was the best speaker. The reason is his corruption and his corrupt friends. The past and his "in crowd" is what's most important. Check that out instead of who is the best speaker.-

I think this is bad for Obama. You guys have made some good points for NOT debating McCain, but anyone who watched Obama debate Hillary knows he came out on top. He was pretty cool under pressure. I don't think he's afraid to debate McCain...I think he's being overly cautious. It just doesn't look good.

And anyone who watched the last debate between Obama and Hillary know that he came out on top despite a fairly hostile moderator. It probably wasn't a very enjoyable experience for Obama. So, the question is: why would he want to repeat that with McCain? Why would he want to set himself up in a situation where he will likely be treated like a liberal calling in to the Rush Limbaugh show? McCain will hold nothing back, he will likely yell, curse, do whatever the heck he wants to. His temper, is, after all, legendary, so it can't hurt him any more. Barack on the other hand will either be unable to get a word in edgewise, or unable to reply in kind to McCain's attacks and still preserve an image of dignity (that the office of President SHOULD bear).

Obama is what the book THE OBAMA NATION by Dr. Jeremiah Corsi says he is; and there is too much danger of being exposed if he accepts John McCains invitation for a Town Hall debate. Speeches are carefully written, and the propaganda given as an actor gives a performance. Obama plays his part well, and OH YES you'll get change, but you'll wish you had left this marxist "redistribution of wealth" and return to the Soviet Union's old lifestyle alone.

Rev WRight wasn't Obama's only mentor. Frank Marshall Davis, mentored Obama before he left for college in Hawaii, and "Frank" was his name in Obama's book; but he was a member of CPUSA, and formerly from Chicago, ILL. Obama's smoking isn't his only secret!-

Why do you need more then 3 debates? If you can't figure out what a candidate’s platform is by the 3rd time then you are not paying attention. The only reason mccain needs more then that is because he is hoping that in one of them he can find something to pick Barak apart on. Nobody is perfect but on intelligence alone not including numerous other attributes Obama is the clear winner.

The only thing I can think of as to why Obama wouldn't want to accept these offers is that he is nervous about being put in a situation he doesn't have complete control in. I for one would love to see a debate, I'm tired of seeing the candidates take each other out of context while the other doesn't have the chance to defend himself. I'm also tired of the prepared speeches and weak questions.

Klarissa, since you didn't ask about McCains past and his current Advisers, Managers, etc. Please look up ( I could give you links, but if you google you can choose which you want to read ) and comment on the following:
Reply
Keating Five, Carl Lindner, Doug Goodyear, Charlie Black, These corrupt people are part of McCains campaign. For God's input you could look up Rob Parsley and John Hagee. for Flip-Flops you could search offshore Drilling and see how much McCain got from the Oil Companies 24 hours after he flopped. When you google also plug in McCain to get the Lexus/Nexus connection.
These are serious things in the circle of a potential president. This is what needs to be debated as opposed to your injection of race above - I suppose this is how you claim he played the Race Card - you mention it then say " see race is involved. Obama is using the Race card" ).
I'm not looking to elect Obama, I wanting to stop the destruction of our Government as represented by McCain, Bush, and their enablers - know who I mean? -

Good comment to be last when I got here. Did you miss the point of the article? It wasn't about B.O. being afraid; it wasn't about McCain being belligerent. It was about getting the third party candidates involved in the debates. From now on, the MSM will probably do their utmost to convince you that there are only 2 candidates for President. Debates will only be open to two, and most of the coverage will center on them... but Bob Barr and Ralph Nader are also running. So yes, there is someone else!
