just another left over liberal trying to make pople beleive her crap. Obviously an Obama supporter and fawning over him. When he makes his I have a dream speech it will be to some group in the ghetto, not from the White House. Am also sure Mary Lyon, like Obama, belives in reparation for slavery, even though since Lyndon Johnson we have spent tens of billions on black people and nobody living ever saw a slave.

Mary Lyon sounds like a wonderful lady and wonderful human being.

Liberals - it is a fine word describing people who think of people other than themselves. I doubt that she believes in reparation for slavery, I don't believe in reparation for slavery but if it ever is discussed it can only come as a debt to the people who owned slaves not the rest of us - most of us who were not even in this country at that time.
I hope all those who are for the war - which has created a maelstrom of activity for inciting fundamentalism and terrorism consider enlisting- you k now put your money where your mouth is.
Good luck. -

Nice commentary. I see you really tried to keep the racism out of it, though you weren't very good at it. We have also spent billions of dollars on welfare for white people and brown people.

As far as nonsense is concerned yours is some best I have read. I am truly amazed at the ignorance and stupidity that lives in this country. Can some of you fools not realize that we are all human beings? Same planet same origin, whether you believe God created it all or you believe in evoloution. Either way we are all from the same place.
The fact is if a whole lot of people didn't think as you do we might have less of the "ghetto groups".
Just exactly makes you think you are all that special? Money? Power? Social Position? Just realize that we all wind up the same way. And all your money possesions or power will not make you any better than the lowest maid or gardener. Quit putting on airs and try to find some time to think about being human instead of looking down on others who may be less fortunate than you.
To put it crudely I would say "You Suck" Clear enough?

I don't know if this article would make one puke or not, but it's evident that Mary Lyon is more liberal than conservative, at least concerning domestic policy. After reading on and on, I discovered that I had to read on and on to find out very little about the woman other than she's concerned with the environment. Her son seems way more liberal. She seemed to do a good job in raising her children and has a lot in common with my family, both Catholic and Presbyterian.

To me a liberal is concerned with the well being of others, but wants to improve the lot in life for others by freebies and requires little on the part of the recipient. A liberal feels free to not be bound by rules or traditions. This is good if it doesn't go too far. There is nothing wrong with rules, it helps us to form a stable society. The liberal still wants rules but only wants others who believe otherwise to be bound by them. It's kind of funny, the Catholic church teaches a liberal social philosophy when it comes to the poor but its pulpit is filled in a conservative manner. And many members find themselves voting conservative because of issues like abortion but ignore teachings about birth control. So I guess individualism is alive and well within the Church. Having said that, its members are diverse, believing in rules but only bound by those rules they are comfortable with. (Thinking like a liberal but voting like a conservative). I wonder why? Another subject for another time. Good post but far too long for my taste. -

There are some sick people who are bigotted against liberals. They even use the word as if it were the "n" word. These are ignorant, narrowminded, hateful sorts who cannot see people as individuals entitled to the same rights, to think, and to share this world with the same dignity and respect that they demand for themselves.

Liberals are just fine if the connotation isn't political but political liberals are always trying to make the rest of us do as they want us to do and if we don't willingly then they use force, like passing laws to make everyone comply to their ideas of what's right. Of course, if another political faction wants the government to something, like drilling for oil off shore, then that's just tough because with liberals in control everyone else is s.o.l. I'm fine with you being a liberal but don't try to force your dumb ideas on the rest of us and we'll all get along fine.

Sorry I didn't have time to read the whole thing. I became a conservative years ago after realizing my liberal dreams were just that - dreams. I woke up and saw that we must be practical and that America is the greatest because of hard working entrepeneurs, inventors and working people. It is in danger of becoming just another "banana republic" because of all the schemes to get money from others who earn it, instead of just stopping the complaining and taking the bull by the horns yourself. Mary seems to be such a person, but forgot to stop complaining and labeling others. I designate her as an honorary conservative because of her belief in morals, family values, education, conservation and that she has accomplished things on her own without handouts.

Re: women in the Catholic church - my wife was president of the Parrish Council at St. Jane Francis in the 1980's in the San Fernando Valley. Not bad for a woman in the Catholic church.
Bin Laden: He wasn't "lucky". His success was because of very good planning and lax security in the U.S. Probably about a 75% chance of success before we had high security as we do today. That "it can't happen again" attitude is returning and is inviting more to come. I don't worry about homeland security, but if I get arrested and sent to prison when I'm innocent, I'll take that chance for the sake of that process saving many lives. Unfortunately Mary is way off on that and that is an unfortunate example of one bad liberal thought process that has pervaded our left leaning citizenry.
Watch the Green Channel and living with Ed, Ed Begley in Studio City, who is an extreme environmentalist. I am a bit that way too.
I read about solar roofing tiles which probably are expensive but a neat idea and may become practical when mass produced. -

Where are the green companies? They are all over the place but refuse to sell at a loss and go bankrupt. Pay the money and help get the industry going. Watch "Greensburg" on the Green Channel. In 1963 I bought a RCA color TV. It was $500. Now a similar set would be $250 vs. $5000 in today's dollars then. But I helped get an industry going (my motive was just to have a color TV).

Like Socialism & Marxism so will go Communism and Liberalism. You can't constantly reward people with government programs for doing little to nothing and expect a people and their society to progess and prosper. A person needs to carry their own societal weight if they are able mentally and physically able, if not then the government THEN needs to have a safety net to help. Otherwise it is temporary help, for a short period of time for them to get THEMSELVES back on their feet. Look what rewarding several generations for having babies, and no fathers around has done to our society!!! THANKS LIBERALS!!!

Per US Census Bureau results over the last 40 years, to include the 2000 Census that was ratified by Pres. GW Bush: in the Bell curve of politics, most Americans are near or at the centrist view - aprox 80% of the nation. Of the other 20%, they are about evenly divided to the left and right with most of these being mid-level left or right. Only 4% of the population is of the far-left / far-right view in politics. Unfortunately it is this 4% who make the most noise and thus, like the squeeky wheel, gets the most attention, espectially in the media.

I notice everyone here wants to jump on one bandwagon or the other, whether that wagon is turning right, left, or center, doesn't matter to me. The real issue is that we have turned into a society that is left with a two party system, leaving the decision between the lesser of two evils every 4 years. Both sides are corporate ****** who disguise themselves behind an elephant or an ass. Come on now - that is not democracy and until we wake up and see that we'll, never get beyond the basic problems we face as a nation. True democratic values need to be stood up for and fought for if necessary. The only way is to accept multiple party candidates into debates and the 'main political stage.'
