Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Agreement is not a prerequisite for participation or friendship, as Ed Murrow and Bill Buckley said.

Even cursory notice reveals "liberal," yes, small "l," decisions tend to benefit the most women, men and children at the least cost. A free primary and high school education increased the quality of the US workforce. This allowed the US to expand it's economy and standard of living, dramatically. Yes, there are ups and down, but the drift is to better and better.

The conservative, yes, a small "c," would have any education, at all, paid for at free-market prices. This would assure only the wealthy or extremely fortunate would learn reading, 'riting and 'rithmatic. Where would the US economy be if that were the norm?

If you listen, to Obama, you'll hear that he's hardly liberal. Centrist, maybe, but more of the same is his plan. Behind a sympathetic facade, rather than the totalitarian harshness, of today, Obama assures more of the same, and it ain't liberal. Although I'm a hard-core liberal, I doubt if Obama can beat McCann, in the rush for the centre.

      You're probably right.

Education is not free, we all pay for it. Public education today is a joke and is so much more expensive than when I went to public school in the 1940's and 50's. My Sons went to public (mostly) and private schools. Thank God for private schools which are much better and far less costly than the taxes I paid for public schools.

Everyone learns the 3 R's in school, hopefully even in public schools. It's all a matter of studying and taking it seriously.

Obama is hardly centrist. He was rated the most liberal of all 100 senators, even beating Ted Kennedy for that honor. Perhaps he is changing a little now to appear more like McCain. I wouldn't count on that change to last though.
