I don't know if this article would make one puke or not, but it's evident that Mary Lyon is more liberal than conservative, at least concerning domestic policy. After reading on and on, I discovered that I had to read on and on to find out very little about the woman other than she's concerned with the environment. Her son seems way more liberal. She seemed to do a good job in raising her children and has a lot in common with my family, both Catholic and Presbyterian.

To me a liberal is concerned with the well being of others, but wants to improve the lot in life for others by freebies and requires little on the part of the recipient. A liberal feels free to not be bound by rules or traditions. This is good if it doesn't go too far. There is nothing wrong with rules, it helps us to form a stable society. The liberal still wants rules but only wants others who believe otherwise to be bound by them. It's kind of funny, the Catholic church teaches a liberal social philosophy when it comes to the poor but its pulpit is filled in a conservative manner. And many members find themselves voting conservative because of issues like abortion but ignore teachings about birth control. So I guess individualism is alive and well within the Church. Having said that, its members are diverse, believing in rules but only bound by those rules they are comfortable with. (Thinking like a liberal but voting like a conservative). I wonder why? Another subject for another time. Good post but far too long for my taste.
