FTA: "Dissent and being a person of color seem to always land in the world of "security risk". One of the Republicans' biggest ticket issues is "increase Security." It plays to fear. It plays to the military. But, as this incident is a small but notable example, it doesn't play to our higher goals of fairness, openness, and actual freedom (not rhetorical "freedom" as in "freedom fries"). For McCain, it's a pattern he can't break free from. For the rest of us, it's an election we must weigh in on, in historic numbers, for the other, security-by-freedom, not security-vs-freedom, side."

Have we not lost enough of our constitution already in this country under the guise of security and by fear-mongering politicians?-

Your comment has nothing to do with the post, maybe just maybe, a Democratic reporter was not welcome, not because of skin color but party affiliation and a history of being biased. Don't know, just maybe. Some people like to introduce race into everything.

"I explained I was with the state press, but the Secret Service man said that didn't matter and that I would have to go," Price said.
Reply
When another reporter asked why Price was being removed, she too was led out of the area. Other state reporters remained.
Out of a large pool of reporters, only the black reporter was asked to leave. Hmmm. One has to wonder where this will go. Not good for the McCain campaign.-

This was done by the security detail. McCain's own hired security, or Secret Service? If the latter, then, even though I would never vote for him, and he has admitted racist attitudes toward Asians, I cannot see how it reflects on him.

But race had nothing to do with it, McCain's staff insisted. Really.
Reply
They said that some of McCain's best reporters are black. Well, no they're not.
The only black one just got asked to leave. And lots of other white reporters were in the same "restricted" zone but they weren't asked to leave. Only the black one. To make things look better...when the white reporter asked why the black reporter was being asked to leave, they kicked her out too. Nice.
This is a lot bigger than Barrack's middle name or his past church pastor. Will the media really cover the story... or will it get washed away by the right wing owned media? (Curtain number 2.) -

MSM sure jumped all over the story about the two Muslim women at Barack's event. This would seem, in my mind, to be more egregious since the two were credentialed reporters. How are the righties going to spin this. I'm sure it will be no big deal in their eyes.

Of course they will distort the fact that there were Muslim reporters at Baracks event. In all honesty, i am surprised that there isn't an article on the front page submitted by one of our resident cons as we speak. From very reliable sources such as The National Enquirer or maybe Drudge!

Perhaps at one point he was. But I really don't know who this man is. He has completely changed his views.
Reply
What is even more baffling is that many of the Republicans couldn't stand him during the primaries. Now he's the greatest thing since toilet paper.
How do the candidates get their fellow Republicans to forget all of that previous negative information and why can't they do it to Liberals as well. -

Well, the right-wingers, neocons, conservatives - whatever they think themselves to be - on this site will NOT change their minds.

Those people still support Bush after 7 years of lies and lawbreaking and tax-payer ripoffs, even in spite of evidence from their OWN government that proves the lies and the law-breaking and the ripoffs via no-bid, no-oversight contracts.
So, they are not going to change their minds about McCain, mainly because he IS just another Bush now. For whatever reason - refusal to accept that they supported someone who lied to them, or because they are so blinded that they can't even SEE the truth - it won't matter what McCain does. They will continue to support him.
I think that if McCain said the sky is actually brown and it just "looks" blue all the time, his Propeller supporters would agree with him!
This story will make NO difference to them, just like his support of torture and his LACK of support (and flip-flopping) on veterans issues don't make any difference to them.-

I have said it before, i am sure i will say it again. Cons will defend another cons right to flush the country down the tubes and curse a Libbie for trying to save it.

They don't care what kind of shape one of their own puts this country in, just as long as they WIN, It's all about winning to them.
If you recall, many of the ones on here said they would never vote for McCain, they would vote for Obama, Hillary etc, but NEVER MCCAIN! Now look at them!! I have come to the conclusion that they are all hypocrits, even the righties in my own family... They swore they would NOT vote for McCain, now he's the man of the hour. I will never understand if i live to be 150.. -

pretending that we still have a free national media is becoming more and more difficult, especially when "free speech zones" have become normal.

If all the other reporters had left in protest over the explusion of the one who inquired why Price was being escorted out, McCain would have gotten no coverage.
Reply
You can bet his security detail would be more careful in the future if reporters refused to cover his events.

Well, his campaign team will try to spin this as a "mistake", but the fact is that McCain himself is a through and through racist.

McCain: racist, bigot & homophobe
John McCain is a racist: Always has been, always will be. A retired Naval officer who served with McCain in the Navy says he treated black sailors with disrespect and scorn. His military record contains numerous racial incidents.
http://www.propeller.com/story/2008/08/03/mccain-racist-bigot-and-homophobe/
Irwin A. Tank, author of Gook: John McCain's Racism, notes a long and sordid history of racism from the presumptive GOP nominee, including:
McCain's use of the anti-Asian slur "gook" publicly for 27 years before dropping the use for his current Presidential run;
McCain's endorsement of George Wallace Jr., a frequent speaker at white supremacist events;
His vote against establishing a holiday for Martin Luther King's birthday and then another vote to rescind the holiday.
In answering a question about divorced fathers and child support, McCain called the children "tar babies."
The list goes on and on.
What else do you expect from a racist, bigot and homophobe?-

First off, McCain had nothing to do with it. It was the secret service who moved him because it was an area for national pree, not local media. This reporter also new this. McCain had nothing to do with it! When the secret service is protecting someone, you are under their control and scrutiny, it is not the other way around.

There is no meaningful distinction beteen 'national press' and 'local media'.
Reply
Doesn't exist, couldn't be proven, and has no meaning.
A reporting pool can be limited to invitees; but the secret service can't pick someone out as being 'local' If they have a legitimate press pass.
Are web bloggers like Drudge or Huffington national ? or is the local NPR or BBC stringer? Or someone from an out-of-state local paper who flew in to cover the event?

Good try.. but that is not the case. When another reporter questioned the action of kicking out Stephen Price, then he was expelled too. This was a descriminatory act. There were several local reporters asked to move; but none were expelled except Price and then the person who defended him.
And what's this bs that McCain loves to be "unscripted" and likes wandering into unprepared situations? He's a phony -- trying to give the impression of "getting down to the people."
"Why couldn't they simply tell them right then and there that this area is restricted to press that travels with McCain, if that was, in fact, true??? "
So in other words, they wanted to get rid of Price altogether, but didn't apply that same admonishment to everyone... and they have orders to keep McCain islolated from reporters who might dare to ask the important questions.
UPDATE: The next line from the Tallahassee Democrat is:
"At the end of the day, your reporter was in the wrong place. I do not know why the other reporters were not moved. The rest of the local press should have been moved as well," Block said.
"I explained I was with the state press, but the Secret Service man said that didn't matter and that I would have to go," Price said.
"When another reporter asked why Price was being removed, she too was led out of the area. Other state reporters remained." -

Let's not forget Jeff Gannon aka James D. Guckert who should have been asked to leave White House press conferences, but was allowed to field "softball" questions to White House officials, including the President himself. Guckert had a White House security clearance for two years and represented a dubious online "news" outlet.
Reply
I guess Senator McCain just wanted to have the black reporter removed so that he could replace him with his own "Guckert".
