Does taking risks build confidence? »

Much has been said and written about how todays children are over protected. We don't let them out of our sight, we drive them to school. Councils cut branches off trees to prevent them being climbed and schools ban risky games. Do we need to take risks to gain confidence and build "character"? Do we need to do rope courses 40 foot above ground?
