For Obama, The Latest News Is Not Good »
Posted By Nixie 1 year, 5 months ago in NewsGallup's latest results show that, as of Friday, the race has become a dead heat, with Obama and McCain each with 44 per cent of the vote. Rasmussen's latest surveys show Obama ahead by a single point, 47 to 46. That means Obama has lost virtually the entire lead he gained on his trip abroad.

"But he gave McCain an opening when he predicted that Republicans would try to scare people by reminding them he "doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills." Obama's campaign has now acknowledged what it earlier denied, that the candidate was talking about race when he said that. Even before that acknowledgment, the McCain campaign accused Obama of playing "the race card." Others charge it is McCain who's playing that card. Not including Obama, who accuses McCain's campaign of cynicism but not racism."

There is a new poll out today 8/5/08 showing Obama 47 McCain 41. I guess if you wait another hour or so McCain will be in a dead heat again. As long as the GOPers are running that Poll. I think i am going to go with the Poll that has shown Obama ahead by about the same points for a while now, that seem more true to me!

The latest Rasmussen has them tied until "leaners" are added, at which point McCain leads by one percent. The latest Gallup has Obama up by 3. Its pretty much a tied race at this point, like it's been since June or so. The one time it wasn't was when Obama went to Europe, that bounce quickly faded away, though.
Reply
It is fairly significant that McCain has managed his first lead in the Rasmussen poll in an extremely long time... I wonder what Gallup will be showing tomorrow? Maybe it will corroborate that Rasmussen poll.-

Given Obama's undeniable popularity, I think it's pretty significant that McCain is polling so close. I think there are some people out there who should take that as a sign, that maybe they need to look into Obama a little further.

What I find interesting is that the Intrade - Live Quotes (on the RealClearPolitics polling page) has Obama leading, 57.2% to 37.6%. For most of the last month, Obama was in the mid 60s. Professional traders are still betting on Obama, but his support has been steadily waning among them.

Obama is in a "Catch-22" situation.
Reply
1) He can't get more support without coming clean on the issues.
2) If he comes clean on the issues, he won't get any more support.
I think the Obamessiah has peaked. Can he win with 45%? It'll be very tough.-

Why don't people post the STATE-BY-STATE numbers?

I think Cons of all people know that the national Presidential poll does not mean diddly squat, or so you were so at pains to remind us back in 2000, Cons.
Is that a flip-flop on your part, Cons? Seems related at least.-

Come on, haven't you seen truth means nothing to these simple minded followers.
They all like the conservative view of the wealthy are always right, and they want to conserve what is theirs.
No one has more rights than they do. But they have more rights than anyone else.
Taxes are what should be paid by the poor and middle class not the wealthy.
Greed is good just ask the Reaganites. Look where it has gotten us.
Bail outs of private corporations just like the Chrysler bail out. Bail outs we the tax payers pay for.
But hey as long as the money goes to the wealthy that is not socialism to the cons.
That is just reinforcing Americas strength. Morally corrupt is what most of them are

This race is like no other we have ever seen and I don't think current polls take that into consideration. Two big differences: Polls rely on telephone surveys. Many, many young people (supposedly a large piece of OBama's base) do not have land line phones so aren't being polled. Second is way bigger and that is the race issue. Until folks get behind the curtain and mark their ballot we have no reliable way of knowing how much effect it will really have. No one knows what goes on behind closed doors or curtains for that matter. Polls are likely to elicit a PC response to the race question.

The cell phone use of young people and the inability to poll them was harped about in 2004 but never made any difference in the polls or the election. The polls that give any insight to the election are the polls of likely voters and since most young people have never voted they, of course, aren't included in those polls.

I find it funny that the neocons have placed their hopes on the shoulders of McCain.
Reply
The very McCain they lambasted in the 2000 election. Which I'm sure Obamas' team will certainly bring into play as the election nears.
How can one support a candidate that they threw under the bus for the incompetant and woeful GW stink up the Whitehouse Bush and his partner in crime I shoot first and look later shotgun Dick Cheney.
We certainly need to be constantly reminded of the garbage we have put up with for 28 years of the last 40 years with incompetant and destructive GOP in charge.
So yeah I guess the polls show a swing for the "good ole boy" McCain. What a joke this early.
After the nominations are over and the real run starts McCain will be so far in rear view mirror we won't even see his headlights at night. LOL
But hey keep hoping neocon wonders. America has been stupid for 7 out of the last ten elections. Maybe the stupidity will continue with "John the blunder McCain."-

It appears if you combine all the major polls and graph them, that Obama peaked in early July. His numbers have not risen above his numbers in February. McCain hit his lowest point in late June. The two are in a dead heat at this time. What will determine the future for Obama will be two things...first how the Clinton supporters act at and after the convention and second how the independents and undecided voters act in November.

according to Real Clear politics, Obama's average polling numbers are on the increase. Obama's average lead has moved from +2.1% to +2.3% to today's +2.8%, this is not indicative of a candidate who has already peaked.
Reply
18 hours ago Stephen Johnson said Obama was trading at 57.2 to McCain;'s 37.6 now the numbers are 59.8 to 39.5 a rise in point spread of +19.6 Obama to +20.3 Obama in about half a day.

As I predicted there is something floating in the punchbowl. the man who cowrote Unfit for Command has another book probably sponsored by the Clintons called Obama Nation. It is not a positive view of Barack (Present) Hussein Obama and indicates that he may be lying about his past. There will be more I am sure before the Convention. Little things like this are the part of the reason Obama is slipping in the polls and will continue to do so.

I think the Dems shot themselves in the foot with Obama.
Reply
They put up the wrong person. With Clinton they had a known politicitian....alot of people didnt like her but...they knew why they didnt like her and she had a known history. With Obama you get an unkown...and as time goes by more and more comes out that even the Dems don't like. By the time the general election comes around Obama could easily lose another ten points in popularity. You can not win with that margin. -

So many people support Obama because they are scared to death that McCain is like George W. George W screwed up this country big time. No sense in trying to make excuses for him, he was the captain of the ship.
Reply
Maybe Obama will make for a bad president, but he can't be any worse than Bush (probably the worst of all time).
I know McCain is much more liberal than Bush is, but he still plays for the same team and believes in the same strategies. As a voter, I just can't risk supporting someone who may easily give us more of the same.
If Obama becomes president, all you McCain supporters need to blame Bush.

Voting a person into the position of POTUS should be based on the persons ability to lead.
Reply
The persons ability to deal with dangerous situations.
The persons ability to take a stand that is very often unpopular but the best thing for the country.
The persons knowlege of forgein affairs and how to deal them.
Having the ability to give real pretty speechs and tell people what they want to hear is not a quality that ranks at the top of my list of qualifications.
Obama fails miserably in all the above other than pretty speechs.-

He is faithful to his family and to his country.

He is a peacemaker, not a warmonger.
He is arrogant enough to make his own decisions when necessary, but wise and humble enough to seek advice and actually weigh it.

The Democrats need to wake up and realize there simply is not enough time for Obama to EARN THE TRUST OF THE VOTERS. There is too much at stake to just hand this election to the republicans! Our COURTS, ECONOMY, ENVIRONMENT, INTERNATIONAL STANDING, WOMEN'S RIGHTS.... are at stake! THIS CALLS FOR A CREATIVE SOLUTION. OBAMA MUST NOMINATE HILLARY AT THE CONVENTION. If he serves two terms as HER VP, perhaps he can then be elected to the awesome position of President of the United States. Think what an exciting convention that will be! Think of the media coverage! Think how wise and courageous Obama will appear. Think how this will unite the Democrats behind this unbeatable ticket! The republicans will not be able to adjust their strategy and Dems will win the White House! yeah!

With 8 years of Bush and McCain being just another evil Republican to everyone in the Obama camp; with the 80% 20% nubers thrown in our face as a claim that the 80% hate Bush and support Obama, polls should mean nothing, because they should be so overwhelmingly onesided in Obama's favor that the right wouldn't dare bring them up.
Reply
So what's the truth here? Is the 80/20 claim a myth or lie? Or has this candidate just squndered the opportunity of a lifetime by who he hangs with and the outlandish things he utters when he talks off the cuff? -
