You do realize that some 70% of stories about Obama on all press outlets have been negative. He is getting more coverage than McCain but most of it is negative. Clearly this is not helping. You do realize that the networks are owned by massive corporations who really do not want to see Obama in office. You can shriek about media bias all you want but the realities, as usual, do not reflect your beliefs.

You're correct, most of the stories are negative about Obama and he gets more coverage. The press likes to report negative things no matter what the topic. Now as to the news corporation owners not wanting to see Obama get elected because of bias, that's a stretch! Maybe the negative things reported about Obama is simply a reflection of Obama's beliefs not being in touch w/ the voters, not some conspiracy. That is why Obama is "fine tuning some of his positions on drilling for oil, too much bad press. This is a good thing. The press should reflect public opinion.

Big deal, he mentioned a country that split. Barry feels there's 57 states because he's visited them. He also suggested we invade Pakistan, who at the time was an ally to the United States.
On Senator McCain's military record, how dare you insult him. First, he was shot down defending the interests of the United States. You may hate the Vietnam War, but he was fighting for you. Under the directions of one of your heroes, Johnson. Another clueless Democrat. On his other crashes, he was flying ground attack. Low altitude, high speed Skyraiders. Where were you when the Bushies and the RW establishment smeared his record in 2000? Where do you think the Left is getting all the ammo against McCain`s military record? Muchos Gracias Georges Arbusto!
Point is, McCain was a legacy who got into the academy because of his dad, who only got through the academy because of his dad, who was such a lousy pilot he only did NOT get grounded because of his dad. Then when he had the one chance in his life to show the stuff he`s really made of and make it on his own, he dumped his wife and mother of three for the young bimbo heiress and the free-loader life.

His "actual plan" consists solely of drilling, building more reactors, and giving the oil industry a tax break. That's it. There is no more to the plan.
Reply
However, you should know that while Sen. McCain wants to build 45 more reactors he has no plan for disposing of the actual waste that they will produce. Indeed, McCain has said he will not allow nuclear waste to be shipped through Arizona, even though it is the most direct route to the proposed "repository" at Yucca Mountain in Nevada. In fact, McCain's only proposal thus far to deal with the waste is to "continue studying the proposed repository at Yucca Mt."
That's some energy plan he's got there. I mean, heck, it's WAY more comprehensive than Sen. Obama's plan of researching new fuels, conservation of current fuels (for which you and your cohort openly ridiculed the man), drilling for increased production, and building some reactors (which I disagree with - unless of course you want to keep the waste there in your state. Any takers?)
Yep, McCain's plan is way better than Obama's. Let's face the facts, McCain's plan isn't even as good as a light-weight like Paris Hilton.-

Bill, tell you what. Can you explain Obama's energy plan say from January, April, May, June and July? He's changed his stand on just about everything. I am not a fan of McCain's but at least I understand what he's talking about. He was against drilling offshore until fuel costs hit $4.00/gallon. Then it made sense to change his stand and he explained that in an open meeting. Barry on the other had tried answering this off the cuff and I'm still not sure what he was talking about. He mentions tire pressure and tune ups. This isn't the 1970's. Most vehicles today warn when service is required and some even if there is a low tire. He wants to spend billions on research but not oil, coal or nuclear. That leaves solar, bio and wind. None of which will see any major advances for at least 25-30 years.
Reply
Barry also mentioned tax breaks for big oil and how we should start investing in things like ethanol or other renewable sources. We do. In fact between the farm subs and direct government aid, we subsidize the bio industry by as much as $2.00/gallon. There seems to be a problem with Barry's math. Too bad the "Big 3" anchors were too busy kissing his butt when they went to Germany instead of asking what he was talking about.-

First, you say you're okay with Sen. McCain changing his position on off-shore drilling because he changed his mind when gasoline hit $4.00/gal. However, when Sen. Obama said he was willing to pursue off-shore drilling as a compromise so that we can get people to the table to implement a more comprehensive better energy policy you don't like that answer. Interesting, which policy shift is predicated on a permanent change and which is predicated on placating the electorate? -

Second, yes vehicles now have built in sensors, and I'll guess people like you only check their tire pressure when the indicator light comes on. You do know the name of those indicators are the "idiot lights" don't you? Spending 10 or maybe 15 seconds a week to check the pressure of your tires, which may or may not cause an "idiot light" warning can save you up to 3.3% in mileage. Now, for someone like you who swears up and down that gas is still going up in WI that could be a significant savings to you. Oh, by-the-by, the 3.3% figure comes from the Department of Energy.
Reply
Additionally, Many people don't bother to perform the scheduled maintenance on their vehicles once the warranty expires. Even in today's high tech world internal combustion engines still need maintenance, no matter what the coward says.-

Third, McCain was the individual who plans on giving the oil industry and ADDITIONAL $4 billion in tax breaks. Ostensibly, these tax breaks - on top of their existing tax breaks for the exact same purpose - are for research into alternative fuels. As one of the spin-monkeys has pointed out today Obama already voted to give the oil industry tax incentives to the tune of $1.5 billion (?). However, that's doesn't seem to be enough for McCain. I wonder how much will be enough?
Reply
Now. a cynic would say the tax incentive plan announced shortly after Hess Petroleum contributed $285 thousand to the McCain campaign was bought and paid for by the petroleum industry. I'm not going to claim that. But I think it might be something that people need to take into account when looking at McCain's new turn toward off-shore drilling.-

Fourth, (Are you still there? Am I making too much sense for you?) McCain wants to build 45 new reactors by 2010. Now perhaps you haven't heard but we don't have anywhere to dispose of the current batch of nuclear waste laying about in various locations. On top of no plan to dispose of the waste, McCain won't even allow said waste to traverse Arizona even if Yucca Mt. in Nevada were to open tomorrow. That doesn't sound too safe or reasonable to me. While Obama also wants to expand nuclear, he realizes that we need to do it prudently and have some plan in place for disposing of spent fuel rods PRIOR to building more reactors. Maybe we could bury it in your backyard? How's about you Maj. John?

Bill, it's clear you haven't been keeping up with current changes to energy, I mean outside of reading the left-wing news papers and your union protester's guide. The French, your buddies, have made huge strides in the nuclear field. Waste is down over 85% over the old systems we use and there are so many fewer parts to fail. Rather than using fancy water pumps, drives and other failure possible items, gravity is used to move the water in and out. Another change is the fuel itself. All are a pelletized and much easier and safer to handle. Rods are much smaller too. Safety walls and anti meltdown systems are similar so if something did go wrong, they are safer. On the old fuel, there are reprocessing steps that can be taken. More contained, more efficient
Reply
The problem with us in the USA, the same folks that are afraid of nuclear power were the ones who forced more coal plants onto us in the 70's and 80's who now don't want them either.-

This comment is below the standard viewing threshold View It »
So you're okay with the NRC dumping the "85% less" waste in your backyard. The point isn't the quantity of waste. The point, my intellectually challenged friend is that all of the waste has to go somewhere. Because whether it is one ton or 1,000 tons it is still highly radioactive and will remain so for the next 10,000 years.
Reply
Again, Sen. McCain has no plan to deal with this waste. None. Zero. Nada. Nyet. But that's okay with you because there's only "15% of what there used to be". So since there's just such a tiny amount you mind keeping it in your garage for us?

Fifth, Obama wants to aggressively push for more alternative sources of energy including but not limited to; wind, solar, geothermal, and bio-fuels. Sen. Obama has proposed government money, subsidies, and tax incentives for corporations looking into and implementing said energy solutions. Sen, McCain on the other hand has consistently said he believes that alternative energy sources are necessary but wants the private sector - aside from the oil industry - to find their own funding. Sen. McCain expects that the oil industry that has now discovered that $4.00/gal seems to be the American threshold will look into developing these alternative fuels only if they are given HUGH incentives, AND access to off-shore oil fields, AND access to deposits of coal in national public land.

Sixth, McCain wants to increase energy output from burning coal at the same time he wants to loosen emission regulations. That's kind a sad turn of events coming from a man - one of the few Republicans in congress I might add - who once said global warming was a problem we need to deal with effectively. Sen. Obama conversely says that we must clean-up the coal burning plants even more than they currently are. He says that we should continue to use them but not expand the industry until newer. cleaner plants can be brought on line.
Reply
As you can see, if you'd pay attention both candidates have some energy plan. One emphasizes increased drilling, tax breaks for the oil industry, and building 45 reactors with no way of disposing of the current waste. The other candidate emphasizes responsible use of what we currently have, conservation, using public and private money to look into improving renewable energy sources, and exploring ways to use currently dangerous forms of energy (nuclear and coal) in a safer more prudent way in the future.
I know which you support because like most on the fringe right you're greedy and self-centered, and don't care to make any sacrifices for the public good. You know, you have no civic virtue.
If this isn't a detailed enough explanation I'm sure you could go to the Obama website and actually read the plan for yourself. I don't expect you will because we all know that you don't like to trouble yourself.-

Many reasons for that, The threat of living without it, should be the main reason. We have been putting more air in our tires since President Carter . Our country has to have the way and means for our people to be able to make these changes. The rich ones that hold all the money and politicians in their hands want to keep it in their hands and are figuring out ways to over capitalize on the new technologies..
