In all actuality, Obama is very much NOT falling in the polls.

Real Clear Politics shows Obama's average lead as going from +2.1 on 8/2 to +2.3% on 8/4 to +2.8% on 8/5 to +3.5% today.
Rasmussen has Obama back at +1% and the only poll that shows Senator McCain leading is USA Today's which they should have updated by now, but for some reason are letting sit.
Not that it matters. Obama's support is slowly but steadily rising out of the +/-3.3% zone of a statistical tie and if it keeps going this way you can look for an average polling result of +5 to +7% Obama within a week or so.

And bluetexasvalley's remark about the electoral votes is very well put, Zogby's electoral map has not changed in some time.

Equally important are the Quinnipiac polls which indicate that Barack Obama has held a substantial and consistent lead in Pennsylvania. Say what you will about winning other states, but without Pennsylvania in his camp, John McCain will be sitting on the sidelines on January 20, 2009.
