Bob Barr: Could your government spy on you? »
Posted By Stringcheese 1 year, 3 months ago in NewsThe recent re-authorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) by Congress - with the support of both Senators Barack Obama and John McCain - is something that you know is a major threat. Even as privacy and free speech advocates are criticizing the Chinese government for its efforts to spy on their people, little is said about FISA and how our government can and will spy on American citizens.

FISA needs to GO! I cannot believe that both Obama and McCain support the act! We need Bob Barr in the debates to force actual discussion about important topics like this that Ob and Mc would otherwise just agree on and skip over.

How can two candidates from two different parties pretend to be so different? This makes me think we really have a one party system and not two party system. It's sad to see McBama vote the wrong way on such an important issue about what Americans take so much pride in, our privacy.

Domestic spying is a violation of our right to be secure in our private lives. Citizens should not be treated like criminals in the nation that was founded on the principles embodied in the Declaration of Independence. We'd all do well to remember these sage words of Jefferson: “When governments fear the people there is liberty. When the people fear the government there is tyranny.”

My money and my vote are going to Bob Barr. McBama have no idea what REAL change is. They're both for big government and more of the same. The lesser of two evils is still evil. Visit http://www.BobBarr2008.com for an idea of what REAL liberty looks like.

The consensus of Obama and McCain on this issue simply backs up my assertion that they are nearly identical in their playforms. The two major parties are in bed with each other to stay in power. They no longer agrue about they way to run government. They only care which constituents are getting paid off.

I want our country to be safe from terrorism, but I also want our people to be free. That is why I am supporting Barr. There's a delicate balance between protection and oppression with any government and I fear that we have begun to cross the line. As badly as Bush has run things, I have to wonder how much worse things would be under Obama. I'm afraid of any candidate who promises things on the basis of fairness. Who will decide what is fair and who will suffer for it? Not his tax sheltered account I assure you.
In all the controversy over spying, we shouldn't loose sight of the "little" things like the fairness doctrine either. Again, the Republicrats are in bed with each other. Obama preaches fairness and we all know how McCain feels about free speech.

Both candidates vote were driven out of fear. If they didn't vote for FISA, they would be billed as "supporting terrorism"

It wasn't a "rumor " - it was an outright misrepresentation, or fabrication, of what Gore said. There are still idiots out there that believe he said it too. -

A better question might be "is your government spying on you?" We know that they could, because they have done it often before, laws and regulations be damned. From COINTELPRO to the doings of Der Bush and Homeland Security, what is consistent is that your privacy means nothing and the law means nothing if the government decides to spy on, imprison, or even extra-legally execute you. -

You have a couple of real winners as finalists, I can find no indication that Mc Dim has ever had a job in the private sector. If he has spent his entire life on military reservations in taxpayer funded housing, how can he have any inkling of how the world really operates?

Obama is a complete mystery to me, how was his education financed? who was helping him gain entry to the schools he attended? How did he get influence with the Chicago political machine, which I understant is unfriendly to outsiders?? -

Does anyone care to remember all the " fanatics" that said they were being watched in the 60's and they were deamed parinoid and a lot of other lables well let me tell you a story of my friend Mark whom after finding a great job on the North slope at the age of 17. well mark left one day to fly up and began working this was a big boy 6' 2" and about 240 pounds His dad had always been with one government agency or another well Mark came home after about a month in a straight Jacket flipping out saying they were watching him and bla bla bla well I loved this Man he was a brother to me I grew up with him and he was just as normal as could be then after he returned I had the opportunity to ask him what happened I was told that four men had druged him and that they had placed microphones in his mouth specificly under his toung, I wrote it off to drug induced wierdness and went on doing what I could to stay close. well about 3 yrs went by and one day I was reading an article that stated the same thing from others then I got to researching different places and what I found blew me away it seems that the government was indeed doing just that putting microphones in unsuspecting folks why who knows I found it off to say the least then I started to wonder why this young electrician would have been targeted and I remembered his dad was a mucky muck with the top folks in the government places like douglas, ITT and others I mean a heavy hitter Now in my old age 30 yrs later I for one believe the government will do anything in its power to monitor and watch those of us whom might be advantagious to there needs what ever they be. I have no trust left and purposely do not take this with a grain of salt. I admitt I have no proof but I have watched for years and I don't trust anyone in government any longer. They are not counting on People being stupid they are banking on it. So think about it conclude your own thoughts but I for one am no longer a patriotic American I'm just a dumb ass that don't know nothing and I like the government learned to lie be dishonest and decietfull and I make good money doing it wake up folks they could give a rats ass about your family in this global MOB atmosphere
