How is John McCain's Affair Different than John Edwards'? »
Posted By Aidenag 1 year, 3 months ago in NewsIf John Edwards' political career is done, why isn't John McCain's? John McCain had a well-documented affair on his first wife, with his current wife. He has admitted in the books he has written about his life that he ran around with several different women while still married to his first wife. And don't forget that he left her for a younger, richer woman - multi-millionaire Cindy Hensley who is now Cindy McCain - after she had been severely hurt in a car accident.

...had to play any opportunity to defame dems up! More immediately, to counter that story of the Repug who was just indicted for raping the daughter of his mistress! have you seen this repug story at all on the TV news? I haven't! Yes, all the news are right wing which goes with the 72% negative opinions found in that George mason analysis!

I bet there are a lot of decent journalists out there who have a hard time sleeping every night because of how tainted they have to report their stories in America, or lose their jobs! -

There is a lot of filth of this type - mostly on the Republican side.

The names that come to mind are:
Bob Dole who cheated his wife while he was having an extra-marital affair with his current wife Elizabeth (Liddy ) Dole.
Newt Gingrich, who was having an extra-marital affair, and served divorce papers to his wife when she wason a hospital bed.
The list is literally too long!
Let's not forget Joe Lieberman, who is still sleeping with his previous political enemy - John McCain!
LOL! -

How are they different?

McCain has never denied that he and Cindy were dating before John got a divorce from his 1st wife.
Nearly all married POWs were devoiced with in 10 years after being released, sad but true.
John Edwards as has lied to everyone about it and HIS CALLED all those who question him on it liars.
John McCain married Cindy and they’ve been together ever since
John Edwards? BOOTY CALL! He says he never loved Rielle Hunter.
Basically Edwards is calling Rielle Hunter a *****.
Edwards has been paying Rielle Hunter 15k or so a month hush money, possibly using his campaign funds to do so, makes one wonder if his $1200.00 hair cut was just a cover to funnel money to Rielle Hunter.
John McCain never paid Cindy to keep her mouth shut, in fact Cindy is worth more money than John McCain.
Who fathered Rielle Hunter’s baby? The paper that broke this story (and they have been 100% so far) says John Edwards is the father.
John Edwards spokes holes say Andrew Young is the father, Andrew Young also worked for the Edwards campaign and is married.
Even stranger Andrew Young along with his wife and kids are living in a mansion paid for by John Edwards! Ya know who else lives in that mansion with the Young’s?
Did ya guess Rielle Hunter? If ya did ya got that one right.
John McCain claims all his children as his own, and he and Cindy have adopted one child from India and have raised her as their own.
Basically we have an affair of the heart John and Cindy McCain
And affair of the, uhm, well, much lower, John Edwards.
John Edwards blames everyone except him self for his whoring, even with his minions trying to compare John Edwards to John McCain!
What a pathetic schmuck!
Sorry there is no comparison tween Edwards and McCain.

On top of that, he hasn't been chosen as the VP candidate with Obama. That would be like Democrats talking about Reagan, Gingrich, Barr, Dole, and many others that aren't running for president although Barr has been mentioned as an Independent.
Now McCain is another story. He is running for the office of President.

I’d think that a Vietnam war vet would understand what ‘emotional’ place a brother in arms may have been after not only fighting in the same brutal war as you Spade, but was held prisoner and tortured. I’m not sure what you did in Country, but did you come back the same ‘sane’ man? Did it not take a while for you to get back close to the same sanity you had before you went there? Does anyone one ever get 100% back? I know many people that went to Nam and acted out for quite a while before they settled back into somewhat normal terms. A few never made it all the way back and some did not make it at all and ended up under a bridge. I think McCain may have had a bit of a struggle getting back and still never made it all the way back and is still haunted by those days, how bout you? This is not an attack Spade, I wasn’t there either and only someone that was there could even come close to ‘understand’ what I tried to convey. I do know that many people came home to be spat on and many just went off the deep end completely and ended up dead and a massive amount of those that were married at the time ended up divorced or in the least cheated or acted badly in one form or another. Maybe you could enlighten us more about that, since you have first hand knowledge and know more that were there with you.

No difference, except that McCain's affair is ancient history and Edward's has just surfaced. McCain has had opportunity to make atonement for his sin and gotten the forgiveness of those he hurt. That is still in the future for Edwards.
Reply
Please don't think I'm defending McCain or denouncing Edwards. When the story broke, I thought it had no business being on the front page. Edwards needs to do whatever he can to make things right with his FAMILY.
And in case you are wondering, the ONLY reason I'm voting for McCain is I agree with 30% of his positions on issues vs .05% of Obama's positions on issues. -

Yeah, Edwards is recent, so I can understand. But remember McCain`s history of adultery is much longer and prevalent.
Reply
Remember also that Edward`s affair did not affect his job, he was not even a govt employee at the time.
McCain was not only taking the lobbyist with him everywhere he went during a campaign, he interfered with the FCC on her behalf. The FCC was forced to send an unprecedented letter to the Senate to get him to stop trying to interfere so they could do their jobs.
That is the reason I cannot vote for McCain, he`s scum.
Obama was on food-assistance as a child, as I was. Obama is a self-made man who is now running for president because of his hard work, skills, and intellect. The Republicans always claim they want to reward hard work. Now is their chance to put their votes where their mouths are. A vote for hard work is a vote for Obama. McCain is a legacy and a leech who never would have been fired from Denny`s for messing with the female staff if he did not dump his wife for the rich home-wrecker heiress. -

Big difference. McCains wife waited for him through all the years he was a POW.
McCain judged that as not important enough to warrant his staying with her.
Speaks of his moral judgement in that he is running for the POTUS. Edwards is not.
Nice try at spinning away the truth. -

This was supposed to have taken place in 2006 and Elizabeth is still by his side, therefore, don't you think he has made atonement for his sin and received forgiveness from her and those he hurt? And as far as wondering why you would still vote for McCain when he voted with Bush 95% of the time? Well, all I can say is you must want 4 more years of the same!!!!

Here is just a little history of Newt, and an excellent example of the average conservative, while they scream "Family Values" at the rest of us.

Ok, lets talk about Obama's "Family Values" commercial. I can't believe he can do it with a straight face. His comparison to being raised with good old American Family Values. He was raised by a single mom. (Because his African Muslim biological father left him and his mother) That is a good thing?
Reply
She then met and married a Malaysian Muslim and moved her son out of the country and schooled him in another culture. (Ok, he was out of the country and exempt from the "American Family Values" Right?)
His mom then sent him back to live with his grandparents in Hawaii. They raised him until he felt he needed to explore the black half of his heritage. (Thanks grandma and grandpa, but I'm more black than white, but thanks for raising me with those good old "Family Values")
We all fall short. He who is without sin cast the first post! -

I've always taken the stand that it's all bad and making 'excuses' for your guy by pointing out the affairs of others doesn't change the fact that it's your guy's turn at the moment as it was when the other guy's time was at hand and you gladly came forth and danced and beat your chest about it. This time it's a Democrat (Edwards) an it's his time to be brow beaten, as was Clinton, Newt, Foley, Craig, the NJ Gov, and anyone else.
Reply
Either we give them all a pass or we brow beat all of them equally.

Nor is it different than Newt's or Clinton's. If you get caught and you are in politics you have to face the scorn of those that voted for you or supported your ideas, because you in essence sullied their cause by giving the opposition something to devalue your cause that they are figure heads of, whatever that cause may be.

I have to agree with you. This story just broke and already it's like the guys career is over. I think it will all come down to how much the media keeps harping on this. If they forget about it in a couple days, it will be over with and he can save his career.

I really think that would be up to the voters to decide. Extramarital affairs ever seem to hurt Republican candidates though so maybe if he changed his party to Republican he could have a resurgence. -

For one Edwards just happened. McCain's was long ago, people have moved on, just as they will with Edwards. The only people making a big deal out of Edwards is the media right now. I know I don't care. He and his wife settled the issue in what, 2005? I feel bad for the guy. They probably thought they had put it away and dealt with it in the privacy of their family, just as every person in his situation would want to do. But now he has to deal with the 24/7 media circus that is going to follow him around for the next month.

AND, people will move on from this thing with Edwards as well. Trying to miminize the affect that McCains actions had on his family is part of the problem. No one is saying that Edwards is innocent, or should get a free pass, but like you said, this feeding frenzy is ridiculous and only makes people dredge up what's in the history (some of it is recent history) of politicians on the right because they have made such a big deal of this.

An affair is an affair, regardless of who did what, people get hurt and time doesn't make it go away. We have memories for a reason, and McCain's affair was no worse or better than Edwards, both were nonetheless affairs, and both men are guilty of hurting their families and both of them had wives that weren't well.
Reply
I have to agree with something slate said on another thread yesterday. Out of 300 million people, why can't we find 1000 decent ones to represent us? It's has become a constant, and all we do is just wait to see who's next. Who is next to be indicted, caught illegally soliciting sex, or having an affair? Where our politicians are concerned, all we the people do is play a waiting game to see who is going to be uncovered as corrupt next.
With today's technology, no one in the spotlight can escape being exposed of an illicit history, and to declare innocence is as about as stupid as it gets. -

Waa.
Edwards was parading his family and his family values during his presidential campaign while he was boinking a campaign staffer. And there is ample evidence that friends of John have spent copious amounts of money to buy the silence of the "baby mama" since then.

These are elected people of high position and power in our country who are supposed to be men of character and strength, not men of weakness who can't fight temptation.
It is unacceptable in my book. If these men can't keep their pants up they should choose another profession. It is their duty as a public servant to act decent without committing adultery and committing crime BUT our government has become so corrupt , nothing surprises me anymore. Look at our President - he is a laughing joke-

Actually, not committing adultery is in no way their duty as public servants.
Adultery is not a crime. It hurts the spouse, the marriage, the kids if there are any. But I'm FAR more concerned with politicians who cheat citizens and lie to them than I am with politicians whose public lives are above board but who have marital difficulties.

One (Edwards) was caught red handed and in a bathroom hiding like a thief. One (Edwards) tried to portray himself as a bastion of good, why he saved all those people from evil doctors even calling up their spirits so he can make his bank account increase in size. He also used his terminally ill wife to bolster that image as well. He lied when he was caught red handed in his hidey hole.
Reply
Though cheating is wrong no matter what sex or party you belong to, if you are in the store shopping for ‘excuses’ of why Edwards is the same as McCain, there is now way they could ever be the same.
It’s the news of the day, just like Craig or Foley. At least this wasn’t sat on for almost a year and put forth a ‘eureka’ moment just before an election as the dastardly Democrats have such a propensity for doing as in Foley two years ago.
What’s the difference? You Democrats spent all that time blasting Republicans for many things saying ‘Hypocrites’ Gay Old Party and all the other things you love to beat your chests about as it pertains to the private lives of Republicans stating that you are taking the high road pointing out hypocrisies yet now you want us to give a Democrat a pas because it’s your guy.
You will soon have a role reversal in politics, I think you may want to remember all the vile things you’ve said about any Republicans over the last 8 years even when or especially if they were recently dead before you whine about what is or will be said about your favored sons and daughters of your political views. I think the ‘change’ will be entertaining. -

Now we are supose to believe it is over , after the reporters caught him at the apartment . Do all democats think everyone is stupid ?

Reply
1. Edwards was considered a VP candidate by some
2. His wife has terminal cancer
3. He lied about the affair
4. This is a recent affair, not something that happened years ago that has already been acknowledged-
