I believe that after the Republican convention when both parties have had a chance to define their platforms and both candidates have received as much exposure as possible, then the polls will take on a new meaning. For now the polls are pretty much meaningless, but Obama and the Democrats have to be getting concerned.

As the polling data usually holds fast over the weekend there is little change between 8/8 and 8/11. We'll have to wait until Monday to see whether Senator Obama's average polling lead on Senator McCain continues to rise, or levels off or falls.
What can be said is that from 8/2 to 8/8 Obama's average polling lead increased from 2.1% to 3.6%. Most polls show him up by 5 to 7 points with only Rasmussen having him down by 1. Intrade has moved from 60.2 Obama 36.5 McCain to 58.4 Obama, 37.0 McCain, still a margin of over twenty points. Current polls read Pew +5% Obama, Gallup +5% Obama (from +3% Obama on 8/7), Rasmussen +1 McCain (from +1 Obama on 8/7), CBS +6% Obama, Time +5% Obama, AP-Ipsos +6% Obama, CNN +7% Obama
The Generic Congressional vote stands unchanged at +10.3% Democrat.
Semnator McCain has been up on Senator Obama on many issues throughout this campaign but this has not seemed to have had much of an impact on Senator Obama's reasonably consistent lead since mid-April.-

According to the poll of polls (real clear politics) Obama is up by 3.7% currently (Sunday). A week ago today his margin was 2.7%. Rasmussen daily tracking which actually had McCain up by 1 yesterday now has it Obama by 2. Gallup on the other hand had Obama up by 5 yesterday but now its Obama by 3.
These numbers will continue to bounce around mostly to a small degree until the conventions and the debates. Unlike in 2004, we have a large number of undecideds. After the conventions and especially after the first debate these people will start to make their choice known.

"Politics: McCain: Obama Seeks To 'Legislate Failure' In Iraq".
To put it honestly for all those McCain lovers, there is no way any sensible and sane person can "convert" the biggest foreign policy blunder backed up by lies and manipulation "into" a "failure". It will remain the biggest "political scandal of the century".
This scum bag of a Republican nominee is a fraud, inflicting lies after lies ignoring the economic hardship 70% of the people are facing. -

People have been waiting for the second coming of Jesus.
Contrary to Obama's belief, he is not the messiah.
A Marxist loving socialist is hardly the person I have been waiting for to lead America.

I personally do not know how anyone in the US can be considering GEEZER BOY Mc Cain. He has done nothing these last 8 years under Bush. He should have protected the US citizens, not Bush and Cheney!. He should have questioned the WEAPONS of mass destruction and he should have gone after the president when ALL of these lies surfaced. HE IS A HUGE PART OF THE RECENT DISTRUST OF OUR GOVERNMENT. He had his chance to make some changes with this WAR on Terror- What has he accomplished?
Reply
If you vote for GEEZER boy, we will have more years of the same old thing; more lies, more wars, more manipulation, higher gas and food prices, & more FISCAL irresponsibility from the REPBUBLICANS who have put our country into deep debt, not only for our generation but for the generations to come. Mc Cain yielded much power in the Senate and went along with BUSH, like a lemming. He is a huge part of the problem and not the solution.
The Republican party under BUSH, including MC Cain, has REDEFINED the US Constitution for all of us. Hey Good ole boys- It reads "We the people" not "Me, the president."
With all of the hoopla about Edwards & his infidelity, Edwards is NOT a presidential candidate and not in the running. Mc Cain is and he is a total philanderer, an adulterer and was horrible to his wife-he betrayed her. Mc Cain is going around talking about the "sanctity" of marriage vows(hypocrite!)....Is this really for us or to get the religious vote ????? A man who cheats on his wife ALSO lies big time-lies become a part of their character make-up. He is lying about OBAMA. He is lying about the economy. He has no plan for energy beyond DRILLING. He does not use or even consider scientific evidence( compare Obama's plan of 800 pages on his website with documentaion- check the references) regarding the environment.
I certainly do not trust GEEZER boy to lead me- Geezer boy will lead us all back into the DARK AGES, just like GW Bush. He has admitted that he does not know how to use EMAIL and the internet. Vote for the GEEZER and you vote for **** Cheney only **** Cheney is not in the news about his infidelities. It is time to move forward and get a fresh start. Geezer boy had his chance. Vote for OBAMA or Ron Paul. -

Jon Stewart had McLame pegged on The Daily Show. He showed a clip of McLame at the Sturgis Rally squawking, "That's the sound of freedom."
Reply
Stewart quipped, "No, that's the sound of money being funneled to Saudi Arabia."
McLame is just a continuation of the Culture of Lies and Incompetence the GOP has created for the past fourteen years. Wake up, America. -

That really doesn't amount to being "ahead in the polls," now, does it? A better index might be, I don't know, perhaps HOW MANY PEOPLE PLAN TO VOTE FOR HIM.
But using that metric, McCain is still limping along in second place and you know it. -
