The Southern Poverty Law Center has monitored hate groups like the KKK, Christian Identity, Neo Nazi and white supremist groups for decades. They recently added the right wing Christian organization, Family Research Council, to its list of active hate groups.

The oldest hate web site is stormfront.org. In the upper right of that site you'll see a picture of Paul Fromm. He's 'faux' news' poster child for freedom of speech. -

You might also find the U.S. Terror Map and Global Incident map useful. They show everything from right-wing groups to environmental and animal rights extremists who use terrorist tactics.

Are you part of Obama nation? Soon all right wing radio will be shut down followed by the criminalization of all opposition where all "neo cons" will be hunted down....perhaps many symbolic leaders first like Bush, Cheney, Gonalez, Ashcroft, Pearl etc will be persecuted first by committee investigation, impeachment, etc. The rest labeled as hate mongerers etc.
Reply
A new leader drawing large rallies, establishing a cult of personaiity, promising an ever active government into the lives of people and ushering in a true one party state. I smell fascism on the march. -

With Rush Limbaugh, Karl Rowe, Fox News, Washington Times and John "confederate racist" McCain what else can one expect when a highly qualified African American is a nominee for the President?
Reply
If the Republican nominee can run an TV Ad featuring blond bimbos questioning the candidacy of a candidate of color, is it not giving ammo to racists pigs?
I am sure millions of sane Americans will put these racist pigs in to places where really belong.
The message should be, if you cannot tolerate an African American being elected President, give up your citizenship and leave. I'm sure there is no country on earth that will take these bigots.-

Label all opposition to Obama as bigots---never argue over content sounds like your message.
Reply
I agree that millions of sane Americans should not tolerate racists. However, I am not sure every critique of experience or stated policy intentions of a candidate is an expression of race....and it is only percieved as such by one who is obsessed with race.
Deconstruct every ad and add up the skin colors all you want to connect the dots. Millions of sane Americans will see who is really desperate to play the race cards.

Here is a McCain skit from a Swedish comedian>
Reply
. McCain is ready to bed but could not find his viagra bottle.
. He screams at Cindy asking where his viagra bottle is gone.
. She says I don't. Suddenly she realizes. She says the dogs and the cats were playing with it.
. McCain walks in to the pet room
. He is astonished to see all his cats and dogs sitting with their tails in "SOLID UPRIGHT" position.
. He could not help himself from screaming "you bit%$#S".
. He calls his campaign staff.
. He says "make a TV Ad immediately to say Obama sneaked in to my house and stole my viagra bottle.
. The campaign manager says Obama has no ED.
. McCain says, who cares. Wait a minute. HA HA HA
. OK. Change the commercial.
. Say Obama has ED!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

This is a very real threat. Even a commenter on faux noise has advocated ************ Obama on national television. Did she ever get punished? Not that I have heard. Those fascist pigs are serious about their hatred and disdain for the rule of law.

No matter what someone thinks about a politician, we as a country should never support ANYONE that would assassinate any of them. I hope the authorities does a good job of protecting Obama, because if elected he will be my president as well.

Political bickering on a site like this is one thing, condoning the death or harm to our political leaders should never be allowed and should be taken seriously. That’s why I get upset when many here say the same sorts of things about Bush.
If you don’t want someone to be president vote against them, don’t threaten them. These people don’t even realize that by murdering a candidate they only elevate them.
Fickin nut jobs.-

Agree Slate.

That there are threats to a candidate is nothing new.
In the end, the person who goes through with a threat is probably deranged. The implication by the posts seems to say that the political motivation is the sickness or that political motivation encourages such acts. Its only marginally relevant as far as I am concerned. A nut job is a nut job.

"It's interesting that our current sitting President has had a number of people claim to want to harm him in various sinister ways, yet there is no investigation for "hate crimes". Where's the concern and upswell of indignation?"

I think people have less sympathy for war criminals and terrorists, i have never seen another President as hated as this one. -

I think violence against any politician (or anyone really) is outrageous. I would no more condone violence against President Bush than against Obama. However, I would like to see President Bush in the Hague, charged with war crimes.

one question: why do you hate america? Is it because you are unable to attain anything meaningful in your life? It seems you are content and at your best when you attack others views that differ from yours. I doubt you have ever experienced any kind of a loving relationship with anyone and I would expect your future holds little to look forward to, other than living for this one moment when you can express your hostility on a computer and thinking , I am somebody. You keep on thinking that if it makes you feel good about yourself and alot of us will continue to laugh at your ignorant and narrow views.

Well as a long time conservative who is married to life long republican, I can tell you, neither of us cares about Obama's heritage. We both supported Condi Rice. I think this is a lot of puff concerning a rather weak candidate. Since he's taken a vacation, this is the next best way to keep his name in the papers.
Reply
The other problem I'm having are the comments made by the racists. Why is it when Rev Wright made comments like this it was fine and protected speech but here it's considered a threat? I dislike both sides in this this fight. I may not like a President, but like my other brothers and sisters in the military, we've sworn an oath to protect this nation. The president's nationality doesn't matter. -

Ehh... the US does. Look up what the Republicans did to the KKK back in the 19th century for an example and even into the ongoing infiltration of today. I think it was a bit easier for the government to do it to the Black Panthers for two reasons...
Reply
1. If I'm not greatly mistaken, the Black Panthers acted as a police force in certain areas where the police just didn't exist. Frankly, I find it to be a good idea, but the government hates challenges to its power in this regard and probably had a few extra tools due to this.
2. Once more, unless I'm greatly mistaken, the Black Panthers were predominantly in urban areas. You'll quickly realize most white supremacist groups are primarily in rural areas, which could lead to making things more difficult. For example, the low population density means everyone knows one another and thus, its difficult to infiltrate such groups. Though plenty of such groups exists in cities, as well.

It is all to true. Unfortunately, some areas of the country are still highly racist. My own town drove out the hate groups years ago, but in just ten minutes I can reach a town where the Ku Klux Klan is still active and preaching hate. Frankly, I don't think Obama has TOO much to worry about as the security afforded the President is very good and I think we have more people in the US who might decide to assassinate Bush then white power activists who will actually kill Obama, though I could be wrong. However, it only takes one man and one bullet to kill the President, that's the one thing history has emphatically taught us. It is also worth noting that Obama survived his trip to the town I live in, and like I said... some of those groups are only ten minutes away.

In my life I've witnessed the shootings of 2 presidents (JFK & Reagan). There are lunatics and evil people in the world. While most of us have the capacity to cope with the disappointment when our candidate loses, there is a small minority of people out there who will do anything (bomb abortion clinics or science labs that use mice, for example) to intimidate or terrorize when their rigid worldview is not shared by those in power.

I sincerely hope that Mr. Obama doesn't become a target of hatred. Presidents never stay in office longer than 8 years, and the pendulum always eventually swings. -

By and large, I think, hate groups are losing the "battle" so to speak. I know the total number of groups have gone up... but does that actually reflect the total number of racists? I've never seen those figures and these hate groups are much like religions... just as one church splinters off to form its own group, so can a hate group and they do. I have a hard time believing that the raw number of racists is on the rise because the youth, by and large, are not racist. The old guard is dying off... and those who would replace them want no part of it. The rise in hate group numbers could actually be an indicator of a loss of cohesiveness of hate organizations in general and thus show that we are winning the fight.
Reply
It is also possible that events like 9/11 triggered a substantial rise in anti-Islam groups... perhaps a combination of the two leading to an increase in the hate groups.
Anyway, back to the main point. Sen. Obama is in very real danger... it only takes one nut job to kill a man, and this nut job could be racist or he could consider Obama a radical socialist or any number of things. He is in greater danger then most Presidents or nominees and he needs the extra security.-

The SPLC sent me an update a while back that showed the numbers growing. I was especially surprised at the growth in CA. and WA. You may be right about anti Islam growth, but the increase is shown in current groups like the nazi's and KKK etc. Those group also have gays, black, mexicans, etc on their 'agenda's.'

McCain should worry about that also... he may have just been a "head fake" all along... let him go out take 3-4 months of "shots" at Obama.. have a stroke just before the convention... and someone more likeable to the "base" steps up.... without the months and months of the press beating him up.. clean candidate .. WINS ELECTION..

I am from the south where they still believe in slavery, and look down on martial couples, and wear their rebel hats and flags. I was raised in the midwest, small farm town, and seven black families. I grew up and went to school with these kids, and they were smart and respected. I can't believe how ignorant and hateful these people can be, but the KKK, and similar groups are real. I fear for Senator Obama's life, as many others do, and pray that nothing happens to him, and that he has superior security around the clock. We need a man like him in the White House to shake up this country, and steer us in the right direction where the USA will thrive again, and the middle class will finally get a break.

I am also from the South, and yes, a few dirtbags still act like idiots. They still wear rebel hats and fly the rebel battle flag. That's freedom of expression.

I now live in the North, and have seen many more racial problems up here. There is a genuine lack of courtesy and it sometimes manifests itself along racial lines. It continues to improve over time, however. I look forward to a post-racial time, though I understand that there are biases inherent in all people based on their environment, education and personality, that will never be fully eradicated.
I'm willing to accept that bias and hatred are not the same thing.
