Hayes was way ahead of his time. Brought much class and finesse to Black soul music. Shaft goes down in music history as a all time classic. He was the first black man to win an Oscar for a musical score. Also for a great read check out "A Step Into Deliverance" by T. Pugh. It's a riveting autobiography and a real page-turner.
