Did McCain Plagiarize His Speech on the Georgia Crisis? »
Posted By TimALoftis 1 year, 2 months ago in NewsA Wikipedia editor notices some similarities between Sen. John McCain's speech today on the crisis in Georgia and the Wikipedia article on the country Georgia. They appear similar enough that most people would consider parts of McCain's speech to be derived directly from Wikipedia.

For an ignorant old rat, the first question to ask is to find Georgia on the world map. This is the idiot who said that Iraq shares its border with Pakistan. Unfortunately, when he said it, his "ear piece" the PIG from CT was not behind him to whisper in to his ears!!!!

As compared to what? I agree that McCain shows a lot of ignorance, but what exactly does "old" have to do with it? Would you describe a 30 year old as an ignorant young rat? I didn't like ageism when I was young, and like it even less now that i'm not.

John McCain shows his ignorance of the world and events more often than you think!
Reply
He insisted on using the name Czechoslovakia, even after people in his campaign corrected him!
He has been interchanging Iraq and Iran quite frequently.
It is either senility or Alzheimer's or plain stupidity! Very dangerous, indeed.
His bellicose attitude and militaristic approach to Russia as he exhibited today while commenting on the events in Georgia is a clear and present danger and those who insist on supporting him should really think twice.
Would anybody feel comfortable with a man of his senility or ignorance having his finger on the nuclear trigger?
I wouldn't!-

the answer is no if you had bothered to research
In 2003, Shevardnadze (who won reelection in 2000) was deposed by the Rose Revolution, after Georgian opposition and international monitors asserted that the 2 November parliamentary elections were marred by fraud. The revolution was led by Mikheil Saakashvili, Zurab Zhvania and Nino Burjanadze, former members and leaders of Shavarnadze’s ruling party. Mikheil Saakashvili was elected as President of Georgia in 2004. Following the Rose Revolution, a series of reforms was launched to strengthen the country’s military and economic capabilities. (Wikipedia)
vs.
Following fraudulent parliamentary elections in 2003, a peaceful, democratic revolution took place, led by the U.S.-educated lawyer Mikheil Saakashvili. The Rose Revolution changed things dramatically and, following his election, President Saakashvili embarked on a series of wide-ranging and successful reforms.(McCain) -

Obama has his own problems:
Reply
“Those covering Senator Obama’s economic speech in Wisconsin today could be forgiven if it felt like déjà vu all over again. Voters may ask themselves that if Senator Obama cannot produce his own ideas on the campaign trail, how will he solve new problems as President?,” asks Neera Tanden, Policy Director for the Clinton campaign.
“Senator Obama’s only ‘new’ ideas were ones that Senator Clinton proposed months ago,” Tanden continues.-

I really don't understand the "look, the other person did this, too" mentality. What you are demonstrating is that both candidates are bad. Something that I have known for a long time.
Reply
So, what are you going to do about it? Are you going to vote for one of the bad candidates? If so, what are your expectations from such an action?
I see a bunch of people arguing over which candidate is not quite as bad as the other candidate, funny when both are liberal candidates that will continue to bury the country in debt with no solutions for our country faces. They both talk change and walk the status quo. Even the Iraq situation is pretty much a wash now with both of them.
For the most part, people who call themselves conservative are not even in the same area code, let alone ballpark with the definition.
Our political situation is a sham. Our country could be so much more than it is. We follow when we should lead. -

Volcker: I Endorse Obama
Former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker is the latest big-name endorsement for Democratic Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, lending his gravitas in the financial world to a presidential candidate whose biggest hurdle is to convince voters he is experienced enough to be president.
[Barack Obama]
Obama
“After 30 years in government, serving under five Presidents of both parties and chairing two non-partisan commissions on the Public Service, I have been reluctant to engage in political campaigns. The time has come to overcome that reluctance,” Mr. Volcker said in a statement today. “However, it is not the current turmoil in markets or the economic uncertainties that have impelled my decision. Rather, it is the breadth and depth of challenges that face our nation at home and abroad. Those challenges demand a new leadership and a fresh approach.”

Wow I realize this may come as a huge surprise to some on the left that someone running for President would state facts in a speech but this appears to be the case.

What the hell should someone say when they're stating the history of a country, make it up?
I know some of you are still in a daze after finding out the democratic poster boy turned out to be a lying cheating hypocrite like so many other politicians from both parties. I hope the prick get federally inedited and goes to jail. Its one thing to lie and another to cheat on your wife, but to use campaign funds (not yet proven) to cover up the affair should infuriate every American.
I think this article is quite a reach and holds little water. Keep digging you still have 84 days to find a scandal on McCain.
Oh by the way I think both McCain and Obama suck just the one to my left sucks a lot more than the one on my right.-

McCain's blunders are terrible. He recently referenced Czechoslovakia as being a country. It hasn't been since 1993.
Reply
McCain is not knowledgeable about world affiairs and lacks common sense.
He's uninformed and not current on world eventsl
I beg to differ, Obama is a scholar of the world and has alot of common sense leadership.
Vote Obama. -

i Am a left winger but have never been a fan of John Edwards for the member who made the comments about his affair...Edwards uses the excuse that he got arrogant..that is what I always disliked about him from the start ....Even when Clinton had his affair I think it was not out of arrogance but just out of his troubled past.....
Reply
McSame on the other had drives me nuts because half the time he is so angry and now he has given up on even his high ground morals to try and win the presidency for instance when he went to the right wing religious college...that was just low.... -

Balanced my behind! When I first arrived on this forum, it was 60-70% cons. They were still spouting how great their hero Bush was. This forum has followed the national trend of finally wising up to the fact that our president is a liar and criminal. Enjoy your fishing and pop a few tops, you're gonna need them come November.

If confirmable plagiarism has occurred, someone's head in the McCain camp should roll.

What is revealed here is the perhaps inevitable distance that exists between the speech maker(s) and the speech giver.

How many ways can you state a set of facts without being accused of plagiarizing? This isn't about whether we like McCain; its about whether he is a plagiarist and clearly, he is not. The third example in the article shows independent research, totally apart from Wikipedia. Besides, none of this is what McCain really wrote. What he REALLY wrote was, "My friends, owing to my vast experience in foreign affairs, I don't believe Russia really invaded Georgia because they would have to go through South Carolina to get there and the Coast Guard would have picked them up."

lol, nice. "My friends, owing to my vast experience in foreign affairs, I don't believe Russia really invaded Georgia because they would have to go through South Carolina to get there and the Coast Guard would have picked them up."

Seriously, from whom did Wikipedia get the information? I'm sure they don't magically know everything. It is entirely possible (and even more feasible since old people like McCain have no computer skills) that McCain and Wikipedia got their information from a common source. And another question: how can Wikipedia own the copyright to any country's history?
