It is what many people have described as so much more than that, a moving experience which is more about life than it is death. Even though the catacombs are after all, a burial sight, many have relics and paintings that were left behind even when the catacombs were abandoned with the arrival of the arrival of the barbarians in Italy, and this makes exploring the catacombs something well worth doing.
