They got Americans so scared that they are willing to let offshore oil drilling in areas that will damage our coastal areas worse than what happened by Valdez.
Why? Because, like Bush, McCain is in bed with the oil companies. Squeezing the public again; for more war and oil profits.-

An Obama ad says McCain's campaign got $2 million from "Big Oil." The total is actually $1.3 million.
Summary
Obama released a TV spot saying McCain's campaign got $2 million from "Big Oil" while McCain proposed "another $4 billion in tax breaks" for the industry.
The truth is that McCain's campaign has received $1.33 million from individuals employed in the oil and gas industry, not $2 million. Obama himself has received nearly $400,000, according to the most authoritative figures available. We find the $2 million figure is based on a mistaken calculation.
Furthermore, McCain is not proposing new tax breaks specifically targeted to the oil industry. He's proposing a general reduction in the corporate income tax rate, which Democrats figure would benefit the five largest oil and gas companies by $3.8 billion. -

...don't vote for any repug again! Their Energy Bill from the Repug "Do Nothing" Congress threw out all the government anti-monopoly laws for energy... so now big oil controls alternatives too! Seen the projections for heating oil lately? Remember that Stevens, currently indicted, didn't even want big oil CEOs to pledge to tell the truth to congress during the Repug Congress!

I have posted my solution to the energy situation here numerous times. I have called my congressman and senators, I have sent them an overview of what I have suggested here. My reward for my effort... an auto reply e-mail from ONE of my senators, and nothing else. A total lack of concern from our EMPLOYEES. This is why I will keep hammering away at getting out my message that America does have other choices. I will keep posting my solutions ( both short and long term ) and I will keep pressing on with my run for POTUS in 2012.

I have been railing about this issue for nearly 2 years. I have repeatedly stated here that the long term goal is to vastly reduce the consumption of fossil fuels. I have even posted MY very SHORT TERM solution, with my long term goals. Here it is again.
Reply
1.) Eliminate ethanol. Ethanol costs $4.59 per gallon, the government subsidizes it at $1.08 per gallon. Congress mandated that 4 billion gallons be added to the fuel supply yearly. Ethanol has been PROVEN to REDUCE vehicle performance, REDUCE fuel economy, and burns NO CLEANER. Reduce the Federal Highway Tax by 50%(9.3 cents) and use the recovered ethanol subsidy to offset that. I am not that good with math, but the elimination of ethanol would reduce the price of gasoline ( not counting the FHT) roughly an additional 19 cents per gallon.
2.) Eliminate the 30+ boutique blends of gasoline out there (Los AngelosCounty has it's own blend) produce one grade 94, and one blend, the cleanest burning possible. Every car can run on 94, but not every car can run correctly on 87. Lower overhead for the refiners means lower prices at the pump.
3.) Increase vehicle fuel economy an additonal 30%, well within current technology. ( approximately 12 mpg more)[ that, coupled with the elimination of ethanol, would result in a net gain of approximately 16 mpg] Proper vehicle maintenance will also net you an additional 3 to 5 mpg.
4.) Invest in nanosolar (60% cheaper than conventional solar panels, and you can literally shingle and side your house with these new panels), nuclear (increase output to at least 70% of electricity generated{30 new Nuclear plants}), wind (where practical) to reduce the use of fossil fuels for electricity generation.
5.) Use LP, NG, and Methane for powering vehicles. Reclaim methane from landfills for use in vehicles (and to reduce greenhouse gases [ methane escaping into the atmosphere ]). Utilize compressed air powered cars (warm climates), and electrics in metropolitan areas to improve air quality and reduce REGIONAL WARMING.-

1.) ethanol is a political giveaway to the farm lobby. right. remove it. reducing FHT also removes the major funding source for bridge and highway repair. that's not such a good idea, unless the cost of energy rises high enough for rail to start making money again. i'd hate to see the shape of the economy for that to happen.
Reply
2.) the one blend that works in LA might cause operating problems in Fargo. the mix that works in Fargo won't let your car start on a hot day in Houston. this one is thorny.
3.) right! one could also argue for the return of the national 55 speed limit. i've stripped two seats out of PT Cruiser, filled my tires to the high range and slowed from 70-75 to 55-60 and my fuel mileage has gone from 22 to almost 30.
4.) solar power is still way expensive. go nuke! go wind!
5.) distribution of NG for auto use is complicated. LP is expensive.

6.) Increase the reach of public transportation, improve it's reliability and capacity. Currently I HAVE to drive 26 miles to work as there is NO public transportation available.
7.) Incentivise businesses to offer shuttle service from the closest public transportation location to their location (where practical).
8.) Return all foodstuffs (ie: corn, soy, etc.)used in ethanol production to the food supply reducing cost to the consumer across the board. This will also help ease world hunger through exporting food again.
9.) Produce more glass containers again, reducing the need for oil in the plastics arena. This won't eliminate plastics, just reduce them. Glass is also easier to recycle.
10.) Increase domestic drilling, refining and storage capacity to build a surplus of gasoline, kerosene, and diesel to further reduce cost at the pump. Increasing our dependence on foreign suppliers will also have a slight effect on world prices. As demand falls, prices fall. This will be of benefit to developing countries.
I believe this is a very workable SHORT TERM solution, and by elininating oil imports (70% of our oil) we can keep that $700 billion dollar per year outlay in OUR economy.
Remember ...........

(#4) nuclear power.....The area I live in has high grade uranium mines which were developed several years ago, then put on standby waiting for the price to come back so they would be economically viable. This has now happened but the tree huggers have stopped any work to get them ready for mining....
(#8) Ethanol.....The farm, fertilizer, and farm equipment lobbies have very deep pockets to buy loyalty from your elected representatives. My suggestion is VOTE FOR NO INCUMBENTS this election cycle. We just keep sending the same ones back to get rich on taxpayer and lobbiest money...... -

I would like to study the differences between glass and plastic. The coversion from glass to plastic packaging was not a cost reduction. It was done to save weight on trucks, to improve safety for the consumer and to save space on store shelves. What is the economic impact of the increased weight, reduced safety and the addtional truckloads due to larger space demands?
Reply
Also, I would like to study the recyclability of glass vs plastic. I'm in both industries now, and I find no difference at all in the ease of recycling. -

It is an interesting manifesto!
However, you may look a little deeper into the subject of nuclear power plants.
As a physicist, I can say without reservation that currently there is no proven and safe way to dispose of the nuclear waste produced by nuclear power plants. It is a biohazard, and will remain a biohazard for at least 100,000 years. Nothing that will come close to it can survive.
We will be creating a monster that we will be condemning our future generations with.
There is no "safe" place to keep this deadly substance.
Yucca Mountain in Nevada was supposed to be the depository of this godforsaken
calamity, but people of Nevada are dead set against it, and now scientists are finding serious problems, including the possibility of radiation leach into water table and the high risk of earthquakes in this region.
Nobody wants radioactive waste in their backyard.
The only reasonable recourse we have is renewable energy, such as wind, solar, ocean waves, hydroelectric and ocean currents. Recent development of Nanosolar films has crossed the performance/ price threshold and now we can literally wrap our homes, offices, schools and factories in Nanosolar films and generate all the power we need. This is where the future is. -

Exxon spends around $600 million on R & D annually. The percentage of that spent on renewables is questionable and debatable.
Reply
One thing that is not questionable or debatable is that their departing CEO received a $400 million exit bonus in '06, clearly far exceeding any R&D on alternative energy.
However, conscientious energy companies like BP are hedging their bets that future profitability will rely on consumption of clean energy. They have pledged $8 billion over 10 years in academic (Cal-Berkeley, not hired political shills) research in viable sources of energy. -

What about using water to turn it into HHO? This technology has been around for over 100 years and with the power of the internet, you can get the information without the media destroying the TRUTH.

A hydrogen fuel cell was invented by Stan Meyer who was killed a few years ago and they took his car that ran on 100% water.
Go to http://www.waterpoweredcar.com/ and click on his link to see the story. His system would have cost $1500 to convert any car into a 100% water burning hybrid.
You can get the plans to install a HHO kit into your car that will save you from 50% or more on gas. This site is on the forefront of this system. http://shmyl.com/xyjqson -

I'm amazed by all the hatred of Big Oil. America is built on capitalism which brings certain questions to mind:
Reply
1. Since when is making profit a bad thing?
2. Should there be a limit to the profit a company be allowed to make, and likewise, should there be a limit on how much salary an individual can make?
3. If so, what is that limit? 10%? 100%? 1000%? Where is the line drawn and who draws it?
4. Since Big Oil provides a product essential to our lifestyle, shouldn't we be grateful to them? (Wow, I bet that gets lots of responses!)
5. If one does not like the profit Big Oil makes, the solution is simple: Stop buying gasoline! Move to an area where electricity is produced by hydro-electric plants, close enough to your job to walk or ride a bike, and use EV's for errands. That way, not one penny you earn will go to Big Oil.-

It seems to me that once these ‘alternative’ sources come on line that they will create BIG Corporations that make MEGA profits, most likely much higher than the 8% that big oil has. The big difference is between renewable sources of energy and fossil fuel.
T. Boone Pickens may make tremendous profits on wind and other renewable energy, but he is absolutely right when he says that currently, we are shifting $700 BILLION of our wealth every year to oil cartel nations, and that is the most obscene and unprecedented transfer of wealth the world has ever seen.
There is nothing wrong with making a profit. In fact, that is the best motivator for hard work and ingenuity. It is when you add political corruption in the equation that makes it obscene. Corrupt lawmakers feeding at the trough of corporate feed lot is what has created the current economic disaster, combined with an illegal and immoral war that has robbed our country of over 1 Trillion dollars and made us a beggar nation!
I would not pick bones with T. Boone Pickens. My disgust is directed towards the ExxonMobils of this world.

Answer: 33 billion dollars. And no thats not a typo. Its easy to point a finger at oil company's cause right now its record prices so yeah lets blame them cause well frankly its easy. Instead of fixing the problem lets windfall profit tax these companys so we can ruin 80% of everyone 401k plan and retirement funds. Its amazing that oil companies profit is roughly 7.2 cent for every dollar made, Microsoft 28 cent every dollar made. Notice the lack of a decimal point. Democrats think the average voter is a moron thats why they dont explain the difference between profit margin and a profit. Get real people the US goverment makes more per gallon than the freaking oil company. But since they (US gov't) has done such a wonderful job with schooling, social security, and everything else they've touched lets go ahead and let them run our oil market too. HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA Quit listening to CNN and the big 3 news shows (abc, cbs, nbc) and get off your butts and do real research and think for yourselves.

The companies don't actually absorb the taxes they pay to the government. They pass them on as part of product cost to the consumer of those products. So, your analysis is flawed in that respect.

If you want to argue that taxing them will just add to the cost of the product, then that's would probably be much more akin to what actually happens.

Come on people, nobody can surely be surprised by any of this, can they? This has been happening for decades if not centuries. Most people live in la la land, because they see people with lots of money and they are told that one day they will also have lots and lots of money, and the amazing thing about it, is that they actually believe it. For example, InventHelp tells people with worthless inventions that all they have to do is spend $20,000 and they will make $millions in return off their worthless inventions. As a result, InventHelp makes $50 million per year off these suckers. Instead of getting rich, they only dig themselves deeper holes in debt.
