His thesis statement is, "How pathetic is it to watch John McCain struggle to accept Barack Obama as an accomplished legislator?" I think anyone would "struggle" to tell us WHAT, as a legislator, Obama has accomplished. The author of this article certainly doesn't tell us.
He goes on to say, "Instead of giving this black legislator the credit he deserves for capturing the attention and imagination of the tens of millions of Americans .... "
That answers the question: Instead of having any legislative accomplishments to look at, Obama's supporters must rely on their imagination.
On second thought, I guess you're right. This guy DID nail it, after all. -

One thing that he said that struck me was his assessment of McCain. The problem is he could be talking about the liberals.
Reply
"there is no place or plan to respect or accept ideas, initiatives, and personalities which differ from his own narrow, privileged view"
Look at your own posts and think how they fit this statement. All of the rantings and ad hominem attacks on the administration and any Republican. Accusing them of being evil and criminal. Refusing to acknowledge that they are working in good faith believing that they are doing the right thing.
If the shoe fits wear it. -

You must be crazy. Obama has been in the Senate 31/2 years and 21/2 of that running for President. He has no accomplishments. He is now sponsoring a bill proposed by the UN so US taxpayers can pay 0.7% of the US GDP to "help impoverished nations". In 13 years thats 850 billion dollars, and he is sponsoring it because most of the money goes to his brothers in Africa. No, you are one more of the liberal left with their prime agenda "politcal correctness" and not the future of the United States.

What an idiot. An accomplished legislator? Obama only has 174 days that he has shown up to legislate. List for us some of his accomplished legislations.

State and federal legislations:
Reply
--PA 90-0249: Public Aid Amendment
This required sending public aid recipients to rehab rather than cutting the benefits "where clinically appropriate substance abuse treatment capacity is available."
--PA 90-0474: Job Training and Economic Development
Added a section for a grant program for organizations trying to help poor people get jobs.
--PA 90-0141: Criminal Procedure
Added a motion for convicted defendants to get DNA or fingerprint analysis done to try to prove their innocence.
--PA 92-0156: Emergency Contraception Law
Provides that emergency contraception shall be provided by hospitals that provide services to sexual assault survivors and requires rules to be developed by each hospital to conform with the law.
--PA 92-0088: Medical Care
Added grants for new community health centers.
--PA 90-0017: Public Aid Rules
This amendment changed the rules for who is ineligible for Illinois Public Aid by adding a person violating a condition of probation or parole to the list. It also added that people who have tried to get public aid from two states by misrepresenting their residency status is ineligible. People convicted of drug crimes don't get cash assistance but can get food stamps. There are numerous other changes please read them if interested.
In addition, here are a few examples of what Obama's accomplished in his short term in the U.S. Senate:
--Authored, with Sen. **** Lugar (R-IN), the Lugar-Obama nonproliferation initiative (signed into law by the president), expanding U.S. cooperation to destroy conventional weapons. It also expands the State Department's ability to detect and interdict weapons and materials of mass destruction.
--Eliminated gifts of travel on corporate jets by lobbyists to members of Congress and required disclosure of bundled campaign contributions under the "Honest Leadership and Open Government Act," which was signed into law in September 2007.
--Sponsored the "Iran Sanctions Enabling Act" supporting divestment of state pension funds from Iran's oil and gas industry. -

A selective oped piece that uses loaded words (like "sponsor" rather than "author") in order to deceive the reader into believing that the inexperienced snob with the terrorist, racist, and anti-Semitic friends is better than he really is. Nice try.

As soon as the RNC runs the ads showing Obama's friend Bill Ayres and explosions at the Pentagon and the NYPD, this election is over.-

Bill Ayres worked with Obama on projects to help their economically depressed communities in Chicago. Is that something you object to?

I wonder about when Obama passes away [peacefully in his sleep, hopefully] and he gets to the Pearly Gates, if Peter will let him in on the basis of what he did, or send him to hell because of what others did that he knew
Reply
because I got to tell you, I know and knew some pretty bad folks myself that would scare the sh!t out of Ayres and Wright
the McCain negative ad campaign is just sticking to softball Paris Hilton tripe mostly-maybe because they are afraid to get too nasty and provoke a negative ad war.
---
I hope it doesn't get too dirty, but in a dirty laundry contest, I think McCain better play nice and keep his old linens out of sight.
---
McCain's best angle to work [besides the POW thing] is the inexperienced not ready to lead stuff-the Wright thing is played and did what it was supposed to, and the Ayres thing is good visceral stuff like Wright, but I"m not sure it can be exploited as effectively
I suppose they know what they're doing, but the popularity angle with the Paris stuff is not good in my opinion. I don't think its effective pointing out his 'rock star status', [which is supposed to hit the envy button maybe? I noticed a lot of these 'wolves at the door' type ads are aimed (as I alluded to above) at the guts, past the faculties of reason to the belly of emotion beyond reason]
With the popularity ads, there may also be a bandwagon backlash. Like with sports teams, everybody wants to feel good about associating themselves with a winner.
Now the ads designed to hit the insecure parts of your gut along with envy, the 'must be nice' elitist stuff, pointing out Obama's wealth and popularity [Meanwhile McCain has how many houses?], the ones saying he'll tax and burden the middle class, I guess they could work if you forget McCain has become pure old boy's network.
That angle I ain't sure about, in light of the 'guns and religion' elitist accusations, which got a lot of play and seemed damaging to Obama
in summation of this long, hopefully entertaining screed, I think McCain's camp should stick with needling people's insecurities, which may have actually been planted mostly by the same party with its terrorist boogeyman/terror alert stuff and the devaluation of the dollar and years of nightly reports of Iraqi casualties, and try to make people feel McCain is the seasoned choice ready to defend us from all the international horrors 'we' created
feeling safe is a huge thing with people. scare'em with terror alerts and reassure them with displays of our might
there's no disputing the sh!t works, is there? [think '04]

What do you expect from a "rich kid" son of an Navy admiral?
Like Bush he has embellished on his career in the military and civilian life. Like Bush he benefited from "planned failures; McCain was indicted with the Keating 5 for the massive S&L failures which lined his pockets.
Do you think from the era and upbringing that he may also be a bigot? Sure. -

[score a minor point for Obama, he didn't have the opportunity to vote against it, if my aged brain remembers right, and admitted in '04 he wasn't sure he would have voted against Iraq, but at least he spoke against it]
Check the link: the third quote is a jawdropper - Obama saying 'There's not much of a difference in my position [on Iraq] and George Bush's at this stage'
Obama goes on to explain that he was toe-ing the party line at the time for the '04 election

This article proves McCain is a racist bigot (see title) because they say so. Full of accuracies, like Obama's legislative accomplishments. They are well known and famous whatever they are. I don't have to tell you - you know. And I'm so glad they said the "black legislator" so we all are now informed of the fact he is "black", not white or brown. That way we all know we should vote for him because of that. McCain should drop out immediately because he is not black and has too much experience in government and in life. Of course he embellished his military career; he's running for President. I'm so glad that is beneath Obama. He never flip flops for political expediency like McCain does. Everyone (especially you typical white persons clinging to your religion and guns who see Obama as different and not like all those guys on the paper money) - vote for Obama because he is black, and he has all those great legislative accomplishments that have changed the course of the country, and the Germans and Muslims like him. In any case it is important to vote. Vote for the Obama of your choice, but VOTE!

Obama stories are in here, right now it's bash McCain time. Just keep up with the newest stories, eventually you will see a shift. You can see in some of the responses that opinions also shift, people bashing McCain today were trashing Obama last week, and vise versa. John Edwards story is old news, that was over a day or two after the story broke.

Having respect for the rival should be self-evident in a presidential campaign. Just to have come so far is an extraordinary achievement and a success one can be proud of. When John Mc Cain attests Barack Obama a lag of intelligence and experience, this only tells us something about the state of his own brain! Both candidates haven´t had the chance yet to prove much of their political skills apart from their home states, but Obama was the one to make the first step abroad. Obama shouldn´t play the race card. He should leave it in his pocket just to show to his rival and all other critics: Yes, I can do without it!

ROTFLMAO
Obama finally went on a week long campaign trip to foreign countries. He has been a legislature and now Senator for 3 1/2 years. He won his first election aided by Rezco. For some reason all other candidates were declared ineligible including the incumbent. He never in the legislature created any bills. His record is voting for far left all the time. When a bipartisan group tried to fix the corruption in Chicago he voted against the group. In the Senate he has the most liberal voting record. Even to the left of Ted Kennedy.
McCain was in the Air Force and was a prisoner of war. He became the leader of the biggest squadron and its record was lackluster. He turned it around and made it a top level squadron. He served as liaison to congress. He decided to retire and become a politician. He was offered Rear Admiral to stay but he refused. He has been congressman and senator for many years. He has gone to other countries on fact finding junkets to many countries including Iraq and Georgia. He knows most of the leaders of those countries as well.
Obams is very inexperienced.
McCain is very experienced.
Obama has made many mistakes when he talks without a prompter.
McCain's favorite campaign method is the town hall with people at random asking him any question they like. a few mistakes but mostly accurate.
Who from this has the better intelligence. The one requiring a teleprompter of the one that usually speaks off the cuff.
I love the fact that you don't see that Obama has been playing the race card. He is a bit subtle but his followers are not. People like you for instance. Anybody saying anything against him is a racist. However that church he went to is very racist. Just go to their web site and look.

Quantity has nothing to do with quality. When people say Obama is ''INEXPERIENCED'' what exactly is meant by that? The current leader of our country had not much more experience. Daddy was a not so good president , now son is. Not to mention his average grades in school. McCain won't help our overseas affairs. Leaders elsewhere look at him as an extention of Bush, which is also my opinion. We need a leader in office who wants to make things right, not represent our country with arrogance and no understanding.

Reply
Basically you all fail at political discussion.
Linking posts to Obama's short track record as a policy maker doesn't mean you did research or know what the hell you're talking about. On the flip side McCain has about as much where-with-all to lead as pretty much any career politician (not very much at all). When you boil it all down either way we're totally screwed. Stop pretending like your vote even matters anymore. Voters are a minority segment of this country, and have been for quite some time.
If you really want to make an impact on the state of our nation, then pay attention to how you spend your money. Stop buying crap from other countries and start buying crap from our country. Stop wasting so much energy and effort into all these self righteous trumped up idealogical causes that serve the means to an end for some rich twit who's hiding his money in foreign banks from government taxation. Maybe if we weren't all such selfish bastards running around thinking that our way is the only way and anyone who says other wise is a schmuck, we'd be better off. You want a better world? Start where you live. All politics is local. Get down to your local assembly and ask them questions on what they're doing to make YOUR town better. You want less idiots running around? Take it up with your kids. Big idiots come from little idiots, and I see a ton of little idiots running around every day. Federal government is broken and you can blame the bipartisan party system we have in place. Dems get in office and spend a ******** of our money to make bigger government with more reach on all things that effect us to make it seem like they're doing something important while they circle jerk their wallets around. Then you get the Republicans in office who use all that extra breathing room that the Dems left behind for them to flex their corporate muscles and circle jerk their wallets around while they make petty fiscal reforms to appease unhappy voters. The cycle repeats.
So I urge you all, start somewhere you can make a strong and immediate difference in the evolution of this nation. Start at home.
