Here's another part of the article that I thought was quite good:

"Those who tell us America can bring peace and democracy to the world don't seem to recognize that they're talking about the same American government that can't keep the streets safe in Washington, D.C. It's the same government that bleeds us with taxes, pits group against group in battles over quotas and privileges, and has devastated our cities with a futile War on Drugs." -

Mr Browne is an idiot, the USA supported Iran in it's War against Iraq, need proof... just look at the videos of the Gulf War, those were Soviet tanks we were shooting up. We can quote Thomas Jeffeson all we want but he did send Marines to Tripoli to fight Muslims. Those who fail to remember the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them.

"Are they working for us or what?"

It would be the "or what." They are working for big business, and an alarming proportion of big business is in the weapons and war business. And an alarming proportion of the REST of american business profits from war indirectly, via elimination of competition and access to cheap natural resources.
So what we have to do, Willotica, is not just ask our politicians to behave, but rather effect complete change on a very fundamental level. Putting a fresh face at the helm of the sinking ship is not enough. So we should ask, "what will a healthy, decent and just society look like" and begin building it ourselves. We cannot effectively look to politicians to do this - they have dedicated their lives to tending the machine of the status quo. They will not willingly abandon it.
