United Liberty lays out why the NRA looks positioned to endorse Bob Barr:

As many of you know, the NRA endorsement is something that most Republican’s sweep each year and is considered to be one of the bigger endorsements Presidential candidates seek. Bob Dole missed out on it in 1996 with his assault gun ban flip-flop, but other than that, the NRA is usually a GOP lock. This year however, the Libertarians have fielded Bob Barr, and he isn’t just a supporter of the 2nd Amendment, he’s quite a bit more.

    Oh boy i sure hope they endorse Barr, that will seal the deal for Obama. All those Gun clinging far right republicans voting for him and not McCain will pretty much guarantee Mclame loses.

      Barr is the only candidate the NRA can possibly endorse this year. Looking forward to their announcement this fall!

        Here's one gun-owner who's a Barr supporter! And Bob's the real-deal regarding gun-ownership. The last time I saw him, he was headed out to the range to do some shooting.

          I'm a life NRA member, and they better endorse Barr. It's just ridiculous otherwise. I know they want to play politics and all, but they do have to pick someone who isn't actively anti-gun.

            Go for it NRA. The Libertarian Party is the most pro-gun party of them all, anyway. Lets start adding some teeth to them...

              Whoop dee do the NRA endorses a candidate. Who cares who they endorse. I will say at least they didn't endorse either McClain or Obama..

                The NRA will endorse John McCain, what tripe that they would do otherwise. Why would the NRA endorse a loser? Libertarians can't get candidates elected on the national level and very few elected on state and local level. They have been trying for 36 years now and the best they ever did was in 1972 with Ron Paul as their Presidential candidates.

                  In my state of Colorado the creepy NRA has pushed for schizophrenic street people to carry concealed weapons.

                  The NRA is all about death and fear.

                  Screw them.
