Posted By tehranchik 1 year, 5 months ago in NewsHamdan's sentence was the first to be delivered in a full war crimes tribunal at Guantanamo Bay, the American prison in Cuba. Proponents of Washington's "war on terror" considered the 66-month jail term too lenient; human rights activists protested that he had served his time -- he had already spent seven years in US custody.

I'm surprised the Alternet repeated the "blackberry buddy" claim - which Clooney has emphatically denied saying - or being.

Not knowing which Guantanamo camp Hamdan was held in, I have no idea what his treatment might have been like but the reflections of Murat Kurnaz on his own treatment - and that of fellow detainees would be a valuable reference.
His book, "Five Years of My Life: An Innocent Man in Guantanamo"
I was horrified not only by the treatment of the detainees, but by the way some of our troops are being instructed to treat people. When people are encouraged to behave in such fashion - it doesn't just go away when
the war is over. Hopefully, someday, our troops will return home. I question how their new "skills" will affect our society. Time will tell.
I commend Mr. Clooney for tackling a subject crying
out for coverage. It is important that America fully
understand what has been done in our name. I just
hope he sticks to the facts - no sensationalism -
with a story like this - it doesn't need it. -
