Hidden Disabilities~should be seen and heard »
Posted By daufnerose 3 months ago in HumorI look somewhat "normal". I also am of "normal" intelligence. And I have a hearing disability, attention deficit and hyperactivity. None of this was diagnosed "back in THE DAY". So, consequently, I was in the corner frequently, left out of those whispered conversations, could not quite follow instructions as others did. I also did things my way ending up with slightly different results.Additionally, I did not quite hear all of the conversations and jokes. So, to fit in, I would respond or laugh anyway! Usually, when I laughed it was when someone had said that there dog had died! Say what?! I was asked questions like: why can't you be like everyone else?!!! Why do you Have to be so different? People assume if you appear "normal" that you are like everyone else! Forget being different due to the hidden disabilities! Why do we assume that everyone is like everyone else, including ourselves, based upon what we see and hear? This world is tough enough, be sure to make yourself seen and heard. As well, make sure you hear your fellow human beings! The greatest compliment that I ever received was, "You are refreshingly unique!" That's better than being called a "wierdo!" Let's hear it for the "refreshing unique" persons and to do what we can to encourage them!
