The funny thing is that if Lieberman were a republican, they would probably be calling him a RINO.

    The funny thing is that this man was a Vice Presidential candidate for the Democrats in 2000. The first Jewish man to be on a major ticket.
    
    Why did Al Gore choose him if he were such a scourge? Was it to put another "first" in their column of candidates - first woman, first Jew, first black, etc. or was it because he was considered a politician who could bring in some votes from undecided, right leaning people? Was it because he was seen as an agent of change? If you view this man as being dangerous to America, did that effect your vote in 2000? Did you vote the party line instead? Do you base your "distaste" for Lieberman solely on the fact that he supported the war in Iraq? Did you mischaracterize "the Kiss" from Bush as the kiss of death or do you acknowledge that Bush said "Thank you for being a patriotic American?"
    
    I would like to know the answers to these and many more questions before I believe some claims from many liberals about what their feelings are towards Lieberman.

      Man, you and Joe Eddie are reading a lot more into my comment than what is there. It's almost as though it doesn't matter what I type, you react to me as the poster rather than the words I post.
      
      My point is that on most issues the republican pundits would label Joe as totally unacceptable, but since he is supporting their candidate he is suddenly totally wonderful.

        Ratskii, I was replying to shady, but I do appreciate what you are saying. I just think that it is funny that if a politician performs like Lieberman or McCain - more Centrist than extreme- they either get labelled a RINO or a DINO. The liberals on here are just as guilty of this as the conservatives on here. It almost seems that there can be no middleground anymore. Now, McCain and Lieberman are not extreme enough and we call them names for not being the picture of conservativism or liberalism. Sometimes the middle is just what we need. Take energy for example. Drill, explore, research - why rule out anything? I have respected both McCain and Lieberman for years regardless of their current support or situation.
