"The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal has not yet been announced, said it includes an American demand that the United States retains exclusive legal jurisdiction over its troops in Iraq."

"Also worked out by negotiators is a companion agreement known as a strategic framework agreement. The official said that Washington has approved it but it still is subject to final approval in Baghdad. That agreement covers a range of political, economic and security relationships between the United States and Iraq."

They've got to get this agreement, even if they must promise a timetable for "withdrawal": they cannot trust the next President to get us the same deal.

That depends on who gets elected. Obama will get us out. McSame won't.

Actually Barry has done a John Kerry on this. He would most likely go along with this time table. His cut & run days are behind him. At least this week.

As to McCain, I think he would follow along this plan, as long as the military agreed with the situation.

Finally, it is Bush and Republicans doing the CUT & RUN.

It seems like every day Bush and McSame are embracing with open arms the policies that Barack Obama espoused months ago. Interesting, though, that they ridiculed them when Obama suggested them. Not surprising.

More like the circumstances have forced their hand. If the Iraqi want it and the American people want it, then can you deny them?

Dionys......months ago the idea of a timetable wasn't realistic. There was still too much to be done. If we had withdrawn when Obama first proposed it the Iraqi government wouldn't have been able to support itself. Shouting "Withdraw" from the start of the war all the way until we start withdrawing troops in no way means he was right the entire time.

Things have so vastly improved in a few months? Please. Spin it however you want, but perhaps you should ask soldiers on the ground.

Well I would assume things have improved considering the Iraqi government wants a timetable so desperately. Would be kinda weird if they wanted to collapse don't you think?

If we had "withdrawn" when Obama first proposed it we never would have gone in. And maybe Osama Bin Ladin would be dead or in custody.

No that isn't the case at all. Barry didn't want the surge, he wanted the troops out way before the Iraqis could have protected themselves. You guys whined about how bad it was before the surge, had we pulled out then it would have been the total destruction of Iraq. It would have been 3 or 4 regions fighting each other. It may still happen but things are getting better daily.

On the Barry topic, which version of cut & run are we talking about to begin with? The run & retreat now campaign? The calendar of retreat plan? The list of requirements with the threats of cutting defense budget funding campaign? Barry voted against just about everything outside of running away screaming like a little girl. Which plan of Barry Husein Obama are you talking about is the one Bush and McCain are using?

The Iraqi's have repeatedly demanded that we get out of their country. McSame was talking about staying there a hundred years. Barry says he will get us out, and suddenly the republicons are negotiating. Who is the leader, and who are the followers.

If that's all you've heard, you've never talked to the average Iraqi. My fiancee/wife was over there and I visited. The common folks preferred us to Saddam's people and the insurgent terrorists. With the Americans came stability. Along with schools, electricity and water. Most Iraqis didn't proper sewerage. It's really getting better there.

As to anyone negotiating, this came from the military side, the suggestion that it's time for us to draw down the troops. With a 10 month window, it's very clear things are even better then I imagined. One other aspect with this, our troops will have to go somewhere. Wonder how Poland is this time of year.

                        alright you libs....

our UN mandate to go in an clean house expires in December. we wanted to have the forces agreement in place so that we wouldn't be leaving the iraq democracy in the lurch to them spin back into civil war.

i snicker when i see BOs current advertisement talking about a responsible withdrawal.

its isn't cutting and running if its mission accomplished. and yet, even with victory in our grasp, Barry still wants to stay out in front of the parade by denigrating the situation to make political hay. that's not leadership.. that's vacuousness.

let it go you liberal losers.

I see we are losers because we don't support this war that is based on lies, has wasted billions of dollars, and distracted us from the one war that we had just cause for entering. And where exactly is Osama Bin Ladin?

"The improved security in Iraq allows us to have conversations with the Iraqis about setting goals for more American troops to come home and for the Iraqis to take the lead in more combat missions," White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said. "Any dates in an agreement will be based on conditions on the ground because we do not want to lose the hard-fought gains of the surge."

I just hope that the Iraqi government can get it together enough for us to get our troops out as soon as `possible. You're right, tchef, we're fighting the wrong war--and for what?

Cool, I want Iraq to start taking care of herself, their freedom has come at a very large cost in many ways and I think most people are weary of the war.

I hope they can handle things after the switch.

its not a switch, its a transition. after 6/09, our guys would be serving as back up to iraq's own forces. the other job that we'd be doing is supporting training during the growth of iraq to a country that doesn't need us there to pick up.

this is a good thing for them and a good thing for us..
