    The problem with voting for a third party candidate is what that means over all. Any third party takes votes away from one party to the exclusion of the other. That has been the history of them so far.Teddy Roosevelt's Bull Moose took Republican voters and threw the election to the Democrats. Same with Ross Perot. Arguably Ralph Nader took votes from the Democrats. Libertarian takes votes from the Republicans.

    The way the electoral college works small slices from one candidate can throw the election while there is not a majority in any state. It was created with the original concept of several candidates running and always having a winner. Originally the person coming in second was the vice president.
