Posted By lenseview 1 year, 3 months ago in FamilyA fantastic, honest, provocative personal take -- by 2 women, each with 1 kid, & each terrific writers -- on the pressures out there for women to have multiple kids. According to them, pressures that come often from other women, that feel intrusive, wrong and, in some ways, represent a step backwards in society's view of women. Agree or disagree, this piece is really strong.

Agree. It's sometimes amazing how some people seem to feel that the most personal intimate things about neighbors' lives should be their business. They'll ask, pry, with the same subtlety or sensitivity as if they're asking about which TV show they like, etc.

This woman is hanging out with the wrong people. There are some parents that have so many children that all they do is learn their names and birthdays, so they can look like loving parents. I suspect they think they are doing God's will. And, I am not saying that is true about all parents who have several children; but the ones who proselytize to others about family values and morals are usually self-righteous narcissists who don't know or believe that sex can or even should be enjoyed without procreating.

My father used to recite that old poem; "There was an old woman who lived in a shoe, she had so many children, who could dare say she didn't know what to do?"-

On a side-note to my utterly brilliant reply, us nerds have to do our part to keep down the population...

Only the nerds should be allowed to reproduce. We could do it like the Vulcans, like comic book guy on The Simpsons suggested.-

Unfortuntely, you have a point there. I propose that to have a child you must have a license. I think that to have a child one must prove they have the financial werewithall to have said child. I'm sick of paying for other peoples children because they can't keep their legs closed or used Birth Control. I don't want children so why should I have to pay for their ugly little spawn of satan.

I'd rather be a freak than what is considered normal. I was told a long time ago from a wise old man who has since passed on; "You never have to ever worry about being normal again...it won't happen."
BTW: I wanted children too -- long before my first was born; and even before I found the right person.

I'm 35 and don't want any children. When people ask why, I tell them that I don't like children at all. I then get a look of horror, like I've just murdered their child. Not that I really care becaue I'm much happier with no kids than the friends that I know that have kids. In fact, all of them have admitted to me that raising children is the most overrated thing they've ever done.

i think that you should do what you feel is right. if you feel that you don't want kids then you shouldn't. if you want eight then go for it. I feel that there are some parents who should never have had any because they don't know how to be loving parents. me and my husband feel the need to have only one child because we want to make sure we can care for her financially with no problems. it is all about what you think you should do.
